Publisher's Description

It's time you stepped into the light of God's role for you

Actors aren't the only ones who play characters. Many of us do, much of the time. We walk into a room, figure out who we're supposed to be in this context, slip into character, and say the lines we know we should say. We become someone else. Maybe we tell ourselves it's some version of us, but deep down we know this inauthentic character is not what God wants for our lives--and it's not what we want either.

With fascinating personal stories and sharp insight into human nature, former actor Allison Allen calls you to drop the brave act and step into the role of a lifetime--being your real self in Christ, no matter what the critics might say. She gives you permission to talk about, rather than around, the things you feel, freeing you to step out of the shadows and into the light of God's true calling.

"The life-giving content on these pages has the power to fill your sails with holy wind and literally change the trajectory of your story!"--Lisa Harper, bestselling author and Bible teacher

"In this book, Allison shares stories of conquering fear, pain, and rejection that uniquely paved the way toward growth, joy, and wisdom. She teaches us to rise above it all and experience God's beautiful light. You will most definitely be inspired."--Scott Hamilton, Olympic figure skating champion; sports commentator; inspirational speaker; cancer survivor

"Through Allison's beautifully transparent story, you and I are encouraged to step out of the shadows of fear and self-doubt and, in Jesus's name, shine!"--Sheila Walsh, bestselling author of In the Middle of the Mess; co-host of LIFE Today

This is a the story of Allison Allen and how from her own life you can take the drama out of your spot light and shine it on GOD. She tells us her experiences of how changing the way we think and her providing bible verses as back up can make a difference to have GOD shine the way HE should in our lives and those that we come in contact with.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to be able to experience GOD's joy and blessings by just changing the way we think in the most simple manners. This is a very interesting read that will keep you reading each chapter. This would be a great gift for a friend that has always felt uncomfortable to talk about their faith and GOD. By reading the examples and ways Allison suggest will allow you to adjust your attitude to that of GOD's word. I recommend this book for any age.

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:16 ESV (22)

Shine by Allison Allen is the author's personal story as it is an inspiration and encouragement for readers to step out of their fears and uncertainties in order to step into the role they were made for. In her terms, it's about stepping into the light that God had shown on us, and let it shine.

"When we drop the brave act, leaning into the God who specializes in bringing wonder to weakness, we are certainly finding our light." (109)

An applicable book that was just as interesting a read by an actor that understood the meaning of stepping out in the limelight, both literally and figuratively. Shine isn't just about actors or speakers, but about every day people who seeks a goal, a purpose and unsure what that is. It's about doing it in God's glory, but also understanding your role in His plan for you. In truth, Shine spoke to me as I reminisce on my personal experience - about starting and working on the Christian Fiction Readers Retreat, but also knowing that the only way it will work is if we sought Him every step of the way. It also allowed me to contemplate on the goals of this blog, what I want to do, and my role.

Shine by Allison Allen ignites in you the desire to shine for Him, and the encouragement to step into whatever role that may be.

"Don't chase the spotlight. Chase Jesus, and leave the spotlight up to Him." (172)

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.

So when I received, Shine; STEPPING INTO THE ROLE YOU WERE MADE FOR, I immediately wondered what I had gotten myself into. I really felt like I had just stepped into an Andy Hardy movie and was being told that we were going to put on a show. As I read further, I understood why. Allison Allen is an actress who has been on Broadway, and even a featured performer on the Women of Faith tours. Now if you've never been in drama or wanted to be an actor, don't worry, the analogies that she uses are so clearly presented that you don't have to have a theater degree to understand.

What comes through in the retelling of her own journey, is an encouraging, challenging and perspective changing book. She so clearly brings examples of the "who" she was and how that person reacted, with the "what" she has learned from it. Her observations bring clarity in who we are in relationship to God, and even how we are all a part of this magnificent story that belongs to Him only. Easy to understand, engaging and so encouraging that it was hard to put down. Shine was a great read!
