Product Description

You were born for this. God hardwired you—yes, you—for this. I'm talking about sharing Jesus with others. What if I told you evangelism is less about delivering a polished presentation and more about having a real conversation? What if I told you that God has created you to bring glory to himself by sharing Jesus with others, and that you don't need years of training to obey what he already made you to do? God created you for his glory to advance his gospel with the gifts, talents, and opportunities he gave you. You live at this time in history for a purpose bigger than yourself.

Alvin Reid's Sharing Jesus Without Freaking Out reveals how to connect the gospel story with your story, and how to talk about that story in normal conversations with people you know. No gimmicks. Nothing clever. No need to freak out. Just you, Jesus, and others—in conversations that matter.

Editorial Reviews

"Doc Reid’s passion to see souls know Jesus is evident. He has dedicated decades of his walk with Christ toward the diligent work of evangelism. Sharing Jesus Without Freaking Out is simply Doc’s way of preaching what he practices. This text will enrich your walk, serve as a practical manual for those you teach, as well as mobilize saints from all walks of life to share the good news of the gospel we’ve been privileged to steward."

D. A. Horton, pastor of Reach Fellowship and chief evangelist for Urban Youth Workers Institute

"Here is an extremely approachable and, at times, light-hearted approach to a deadly serious subject: telling others about your love for Christ without fear. I have given my life to the idea of one person lovingly and effectively telling another about the joy of walking with Jesus, and in this book, Alvin Reid does a superb job of helping you learn how to share your faith effectively. Fearlessly. I enthusiastically commend it to you."

Rebecca Manley Pippert, author of Out of the Saltshaker, Into the World

"Let’s face it: most Christians are freaked out when it comes to evangelism. We don’t need someone scolding the ineffectiveness of the church today as much as a leader to show a fresh, effective way to tell the timeless good news. My friend Alvin Reid does just that in this encouraging book. You can have real and effective conversations with people about Jesus; Alvin will show you how."

This book was encouraging to read as a passionate Christian who does not have the courage to be so forward in daily life. From the very beginning the book is full of truth that puts "evangelism" into a tangible and accessible position. Bu reading this book, I have felt empowered and capable of sharing Jesus boldly and faithfully with friends and strangers alike. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for ways to incorporate Jesus and religion into every day conversations, without intimidation or fear.

Just get out there and share Jesus. The heartbeat of the book is to simply love Jesus. God has already equipped us to share, Sharing Jesus shows us that we just need to speak to people, be bold and not be afraid to do so. I highly recommend this book. This is what we are meant to do!!

So many times, I have heard it and Im even guilty of it myself. We put a formula to how we share the Gospel with others. I wont go into the different popular formulas here, but suffice it to say it can be more of a shotgun approach that is more like a business presentation. We often just try to as quickly as possible get the person to recite the prayer of salvation that so many of us know so well.

Alvin L. Reid put together this book to provide more of a natural manner in which we can share the Gospel with others. This alleviates the infamous fear factor of feeling like we have to know the answer to any possible question or argument that someone may come up with. It is a refreshing way of looking at evangelism that if people were to take hold of, would make a huge impact on the Kingdom of God. I really appreciate the practical approach that the author took with the subject of evangelism and took it from what we all learned as a presentation to real-live conversations and relationships.

At the end of the book, the author provides an eight week challenge where he encourages the reader to apply what is taught in each of these eight chapters. I would very highly recommend this book especially to anyone who has ever felt that fear factor when it comes to sharing the Gospel with others.

I received a copy of this book and chart in exchange for my honest review.

Have you ever been scared by the daunting and seemingly insurmountable task of sharing your faith with others? What about this Christian duty terrifies you? In most cases the answer is people are unsure of how to share the gospel with others no matter who they are. They know what the gospel contains, they even have a heart to share it with others, yet they know not how to share it in a way that is organic with others. In the recently released book, Sharing Jesus Without Freaking Out, by Alvin C. Reid, this concept is explained in great detail.

Reid explains that evangelism gets over-complicated in our society. We get so caught up in the dynamics and gymnastic tricks that we forget the simplistic message of the Gospel. We forget the message of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ does not need to be jazzed up rather it needs to be explained others in organic conversational fashion. In the six chapters of this amazing book read does not write any new type of method of evangelism. Rather the Reid reminds Christians of how they were lead to righteousness by the good news of the Gospel. How they were led by one person telling them these truths of the only son of God and our need for salvation from sin.

Furthermore he explains how it is not only the words which we use to share the gospel that are important but demonstrating the life of Christ through our actions. Reid does go in-depth in this book a simple summary can be seen in the books final Chapter, Making Friends Not Visits. For the entirety of the book prepares a Christian, no matter where they are in their walk, to go out and love others by sharing the gospel in organic fashion which is what God created us to do. Have conversations with others, share the truth of his word, and have God transform their hearts for him. I highly recommend this book to any and all Christians who desire to evangelize to those in their lives.

When you mention the word evangelism, chances are most people think of a canned presentation like The Four Spiritual Laws, Romans Road, or Evangelism Explosion. You think about a program you have to memorize and repeat correctly. Pastor, Professor, and author Alvin Reid wants us to think about evangelism more as a conversation rather than a program.

In his book, Sharing Jesus {without freaking out}: Evangelism the way you were born to do it, Reid shares eight principles that are aimed at helping each person see

how God wired you to be youhow to be a living, loving witness without morphing into a person you were never meant to be. You dont have to be a superstar Christian or a clever communicator. You just need to find the intersection of your love for Jesus and your love for the other person.

Each chapter of the book explores one of his eight principles:

Principle 1: God created you for his glory, to advance his gospel with the gifts, talents, and opportunities he gave to you.

Principle 2: In order share Jesus confidently and consistently with others, first share him confidently and consistently with yourself.

Principle 3: Shifting from giving an evangelistic presentation to having an evangelistic conversation takes pressure off the witness and relates the gospel more clearly to an unbeliever.

Principle 4: God has sovereignly placed you in this world at this time with the abilities and gifts you have to bring glory to him and show the joy of the gospel to others.

Principle 5: Effective evangelistic conversations connect the unchanging gospel with the specific issues people face.

Principle 6: Expect people to be open to the gospel, and learn to share Jesus where they live.

Principle 7: Talk to the actual person in front of you about the Jesus inside you; let them see and hear the change Jesus makes in you.

Principle 8: Developing a lifestyle of sharing Jesus consistently flows out of a plan to share Jesus regularly.

The book includes an eight-week study guide for individual and small group study designed to help the reader put the principles into action. I appreciated his approach and found his stories and examples to be encouraging.

Books like this one have an inherent two-fold weakness. One is that they presuppose that one already knows how to share their faith. A person still needs to learn a basic approach to evangelism and what verses youd use in sharing your faith. That way when it comes up in conversation you know what to say and how to shift a conversation in that direction. The second weakness is that it presupposes everyone is an extrovert like the author and naturally connects and talks easily with strangers. One has to work hard at adapting his principles to your own unique personality and style. That being said, the book is helpful and encouraging.

Disclosure: I received this book free from B&H Publishing through the B&H/Lifeway Bloggers program http://www.bhbloggers.com/. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.
