Product Description

One kind of shame is good---it's the natural response of an unholy creature before a holy creator. But that stomach-churning shame that grips you in the dark of the night---that's not something a child of God needs to endure. In a personal, story-filled, and sensitive way, Smedes examines true and false shame and affirms God's healing grace and power. 176 pages, softcover from HarperCollins.

Publisher's Description

A Proven Path to Move from Shame to Healing

If you persistently feel you don't measure up, you are feeling shame—that vague, undefined heaviness that presses on our spirit, dampens our gratitude for the goodness of life, and diminishes our joy. The good news is that shame can be healed. With warmth and wit, Lewis B. Smedes examines why and how we feel shame, and presents a profound, spiritual plan for healing. Step by step, Smedes outlines the road to well-being and the peace that comes from knowing we are accepted by the grace of One whose acceptance of us matters most.

This book is ok for personal use. But I don't think it is the best for bible study groups.

Was a reading for a D. Min. class at Bethel and it is one of my top books. This is a must read for every pastor. The book also gives an explanation for what drives many of the "successful" pastors and laypeople, the need to be significant and erase their shame.

This book changed my life! Smedes' books (this one and many of his others) revealed to me the depth of God's unconditional love when I felt so completely unlovable. Shame is like eats away at you...and the only cure is God's love. I have given away more copies of this book than I can count. It is especially good for people going through divorce.
