"Shadows of the Past" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. The suspense came from physical danger to various characters and the shaky nature of the romance. Taylor feels like men will always reject her because she doesn't quite measure up somehow. Nick is afraid of loving again after losing the love of his life to a tragic murder. Add to this that Nick is hiding information to protect his brother (the main suspect). So the romance is shaky even if they are attracted.
The suspense was pretty high at the start and the end, but there's a lull in the middle. A number of people end up dead. However, I was confused by several people demanding that Taylor stop profiling active cases because it's too dangerous. Yet the main suspect found Taylor through her teaching job (which they deem safe).
Also, Taylor feels like God won't answer her prayers but thinks about reconnecting with God based on the peace Nick has from "giving God control over his life, trusting him no matter what." This is fine except it came right after Nick basically stated that he didn't trust God in the matter of her safety. So, odd timing on that.
There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this interesting suspense novel.
I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue very much. It kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. The heroine and hero had both had more than their share of extremely difficult circumstances with which to deal. Their experiences from the past were enough to scar a person for life but stuff just kept happening. I started wondering if there would ever be an end in sight to the tragedies or answers to all their questions. Just when you thought they were catching a break, something else would occur. About two-thirds of the way through, I started getting a little suspicious about one of the characters but things really didn't shake out until right at the end of the book. Most of the ending took me by surprise. The romance was there but it was not the overriding story line for me. I was caught up in the suspense. If you like a lot of suspense, a bit of romance, and a touch of faith all put together into a great story, I recommend this book to you.
This is the first of Patricia Bradley's books that I've read and I can't wait to read another! The characters of this book - all of them, not just the main ones - are well developed. I feel like I know them. I thought I had the "who done it" all figured out by page 116, but boy was I wrong! There were constantly things that made me rethink who I thought it was, but I stuck to my guns, and I got it wrong! This is well written and suspenseful. I'm starting the next book in the Logan Point series today, and I look forward to seeing what she has in store!
I recently discovered Patricia Bradley as an author. She writes Christian Suspense and I've read three of her books. All are page turners. Shadows of the Past is the first book in the Logan Point romantic suspense series. You can read them as stand alones. The books will capture your attention, hook you in and you won't want to stop reading because you want to see what happens next.
Taylor Martin is a Psychology professor and a criminal profiler. She's been able to solve most of her cases except the one where her father disappeared twenty years ago. Nick Sinclair is a mystery writer and still blames himself for his wife's death. Follow these two as they try to solve mysteries, forgive themselves and try to solve the clues that are dropped along the way. Sorry I can't tell you more about the book but I don't want to spoil it for you. If you like puzzles, then Patricia Bradley's books are for you.
I did read them out of order but it didn't matter. She writes suspense that grabs and holds onto you. It only took one book to add her to my favorite author's list. You won't be disappointed in her books.
I received this book from Patricia Bradley and all she asked was that I read this book and leave an honest review. I don't give 5 stars on a review unless its a page turner, or touches my heart in a special way.
