Publisher's Description

She was invisible to those who should have loved her. After the Great War, Abby Fraser returns to India, where her husband is stationed with the British army. She has longed to go home to the land of glittering palaces and veiled women . . . but Nick has become a cruel stranger and a cruel father to their three-year old son. It will take more than her American pluck to survive. Major Geoff Richards, broken over the loss of so many of his men in the trenches of France, returns to his cavalry post in Amritsar. His faith does little to help him understand the ruthlessness of his British peers toward the Indian people he loves. Nor does it explain how he is to protect Abby Fraser and her child from the husband who mistreats them. Amid political unrest, inhospitable deserts, and Russian spies, tensions rise in India as the people cry for the freedom espoused by Gandhi. Caught between their own ideals and duty, Geoff and Abby stumble into sinister secrets . . . secrets that will thrust them out of the shadows and straight into the fire of revolution.

Shadowed in Silk is an interesting historical fiction book set in India after WWI. Although the novel is more about the British military officers and their wives, this story gives an excellent perspective on the attitudes and feelings of the Indian citizens, who were under British rule. The descriptive writing vividly portrays each scene in such a way that I felt I was right there in the midst of the story, rather than just being an observer.

The complex storyline has a bit of everything that keeps readers turning pagesintrigue, romance, interesting characters, and a great setting. Im looking forward to reading the next book in the Twilight of the British Raj series. I recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction in exotic places.

Here is the final book of the trilogy, which is by far the best of the best! We are introduced to India, her people, politics, religious sects, and flavors of food and more that excite the heart. When I started reading the book a couple of hours ago, part of me was sad because it was the last novel of the series. I enjoyed the constant adventure and action, friendships forming, hearts mended and lives redeemed.

The story in this novel takes place a little over a decade from the events in the first book, Shadowed by Silk. The main focus is on Cam who is now a young man. He returns to India and longs to express his long-held feelings for Hadassah whom he met at the orphanage years before when they were but wee ones. Cam has served in British Intelligence and has been keeping his broken heart and alcoholic problems a secret. On a whim, Hadassah agrees to marry Cam even knowing the future will be anything but easy coming from two different nationalities.

The tension grows even more in India when the exodus of the British along with the land division is moved up from years to mere weeks. There is also a flavoring of a mystery as to who has been really transformed by Christ and those who may no longer live as if they believe. With the geographical boundaries changing many wonder how that is going to affect the ability to teach women, share the gospel or how many lives may be lost or harmed in the change.

Above all, I loved the way the author kept me turning pages as I wanted to see how various plots concluded whether on a national scale or personal ones. At the time in history when these stories take place there is none of the latest technology which many rely on so much today. Letters would or could take weeks in the story whereas now we can send a note over the internet in seconds.

I love historical fiction because there is much to learn anew. With so many things happening around the world at the same time other tales get lost for awhile. I am reminded how the enemies of Christ are deceived and the strength it takes to share the gospel when death could be imminent. I fell in love with the people who were created uniquely and saw life so colorful, especially if they knew Christ. I cant state it enough that reading these novels will definitely touch your soul, heart and mind. So enjoy Shadowed of Silk, Captured by Moonlight and finally Veiled at Midnight!

This book was so wonderful and emotionally involving that it took me away from what I should have been doing. I pushed aside everything and kept reading. My attention was riveted to this absolutely beautifully-written novel which brings to the forefront so many themes of love, loyalty, longing, hate, prejudice, and how God is sovereign in the midst of tragedy and triumph. Ms. Lindsay gives us a strong, haunted but loyal and stalwart hero in Geoff, and my heart broke for the kind-hearted heroine, Abby, even as I glimpsed her strong inner strength. I literally cheered out loud when she began to assert her will and stand up against those who sought to hurt her and her son. You will laugh, you will cry, you will smile and you will ultimately be deeply touched by these characters and their story. It's a heartfelt story I won't forget, and I am giving it my highest recommendation.

Christine Lindsay's debut novel showcases an author who knows how to tell a compelling tale that will transport the reader back into a not too distant time of both lushness and complexity. The reader will not only read about the characters but will also see, feel, taste, and hear what they experience. Christine has you rooting for the good guys and holding your breath about the the bad ones, making you wonder to the very end of the story whether or not they'll succeed. More importantly, Christine does a fantastic job throughout the story showing God's love for all of us, no matter one's race or nationality, a story that even in today's times everyone can relate to.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I was once patted on the head by Prince Philip when I was a baby. My great grandfather, and my grandfather—yes father and son—were both riveters on the building of the Titanic. Tongue in cheek, I think it's fair to say, that as a family we accept no responsibility for the sinking of that infamous ship.

I live on the west coast of Canada with my husband and our grown up family. My cat Scottie is chief editor on all my books.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Stories of my ancestors who served in the British Cavalry in Colonial India inspired my multi-award-winning, historical series Twilight of the British Raj, Book 1 Shadowed in Silk, Book 2 Captured by Moonlight, Book 3, Veiled at Midnight. Londonderry Dreaming is Christine’s first contemporary romance set in N. Ireland.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Shadowed in Silk is like all the novels in this trilogy--a serious Christian historical with strong spiritual takeaway, but also with what I like to call BIG LOVE STORY. This first book in the series deals with the subject of spousal abuse, but I believe I wrote it with a delicate hand. I don't shy away from the sad things that happen in this world, but I don't write graphically--truthfully yes, but holding back as much as I can.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Much of the heroine Abby Fraser's emotional journey was inspired by my mother's journey as an emotionally battered wife of an alcoholic. But I always believe in happy endings because I believe in the ultimate happy ending for those who love and follow Jesus Christ.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Francine Rivers is probably the strongest influence on my writing. Like Francine, I try to deal with those tough subjects but showing the hope on every page, that God can redeem a life no matter what has happened.
