Christianfictionaddiction4 Stars Out Of 5A book sure to bless your marriageJanuary 6, 2012ChristianfictionaddictionQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Drawing upon lessons gleaned from their own marriage and from years of counselling couples through their ministry at Fellowship Church, pastoral couple Ed and Lisa Young offer up a book about marriage and the truth about God's design for sex within marriage. The premise of the book starts with the "Sexperiment' challenge, a challenge their church was given for married couples to make love every day for one week with a purpose of "greater intimacy with each other and, ultimately, greater intimacy with God". The positive results from people in their congregation led to the creation of the book. Sexperiment tackles such issues as couples moving from being kid-centered to marriage centered, the role of prayer in marriage and sex, communication struggles, the impact and danger of pornography, and putting your spouse first.
The Youngs have written a book that is approachable in it's style, easy to read and non-judgmental, one that is sure to benefit your marriage. Although you might scoff at the promise that one week of sex every day will truly make a difference, the authors are clear about this being a starting point, a foundation from which to tackle other issues going on in your marriage, and one that will have clear benefits. In addition to the main material in the book, I appreciated the sections at the back of each chapter, such as the one for couples about to get married entitled "before you do", and the highly useful section "Action Steps" which puts their teaching into practice, for example a recommendation to schedule two date nights that week, or to create a list of seven ways to honor your spouse through affirmation. These sections ensure that you won't just pick up this book, read it, and then walk away unchanged, but that you will take steps to actually impact your marriage! Personal anecdotes and stories, along with guidance from the Bible, enliven and enrich the book and will keep you reading.
I strongly recommend this book and give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
