Product Description

Today's teens may look and dress differently, but by no means are they a lost generation. They long for great relationships, they love to help others, and they take spiritual things and strong values seriously. Yet most adults have been scared off by what they hear on the news. Author Timothy Smith wants to see the older generation connect with today's teens for the good of the church and America's homes. Referencing a wealth of Gallup research, as well as years in youth work, Smith takes adults inside the greatest needs of the younger generation, enabling parents, teachers and pastors to not only understand who these kids are, but to lay aside any fears and learn to influence them.

Tell us a little about yourself.  After 17 years as a youth pastor and 12 years as a family pastor, I have launched a new non profit to impact families 'Life Skills for American Families'. Our mission is to celebrate and empower families and apply God's timeless principles.

What was your motivation behind this project?  In my work with parents of teenagers, I was constantly asked, "Is this normal, or is my teen unique?" I wanted to research what teens really do need - based on what they say. Plus I wanted to introduce people to biblical principles which will help their parenting and family life.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope it gives teens a voice for their needs and their parents an understanding of the fires that burn in the heart of their son or daughter. I hope it helps parents, youthworkers and teens to connect.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I enjoy reading cultural observers like Charles Colson, John Ortberg, George Barna and George Gallup. For fun I read John Grisham.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  For more about today's teens, read Jim Burns and Walt Mueller.
