Publisher's Description

Not all heroic dogs wildly toss themselves into lifesaving situations. Some save lives simply by their incredible commitment to duty and service. Some lead the way to independence for people whose disabilities were supposed to limit their lives.

In Service Tails: More Stories of Man’s Best Hero, prolific author Ace Collins introduces us to leaders whose entire lives are wrapped in the banner of service. Their stories are remarkable snapshots of the value of vision and teamwork, as well as devotion to duty and unconditional love and acceptance–stretching the way we see both canine and human potential. Their training was intense, their loyalty unquestioned and each step of the way they constantly adapt to better serve those they lead. These unforgettable dogs are more than heroes; they are models from which we can learn how to love and serve unconditionally.

This is a great inspirational book. You don't need to be a dog lover to love the stories in this book. The book tells stories of service dogs from all different breeds and the reasons for their work. The first chapter will give you the history of how service dogs came about in America. Then each chapter is about a person and their service dog. You can be read each chapter as a stand alone or a short story, you don't have to read from beginning to end, you may skip around.

I would recommend this to everyone of every age to read. What an inspirational book that will make everyone smile. This book can take a bad day and turn it around just by reading one story. If you are a dog lover you will especially enjoy this book. After you read it, the story or stories will stick with you. Love this book and enjoyed learning how these dogs are changing the lives of people and changing the way society treats those with disabilities. GREAT BOOK!!!!

This is a heartwarming book filled with stories that will inspire and teach you more about service dogs who are true heroes to so many. As a person with a disability, I have always been familiar with service dogs even though I have never had one myself. It was such a joy to read this and not only learn more about the history of service dogs but to also to learn the stories of so many who have benefited from their service over the years. These stories were the encouragement my soul needed during this season. If you haven't done so already pick up a copy or two of this book to read and share with friends. You will laugh, cry, and be encouraged.

I was given a copy of this book by Litfuse Publicity in exchange for my review.

Nothing can be disputed when it comes to the unconditional love and loyalty found in the hearts of dog lovers, for they know it's true because of their four-legged companions live it out in front of them every single moment of their days. So it should come as no surprise that Service Tails by Ace Collins reveals to us some amazing and heart-warming stories of man's best hero. Tucked inside the cover with a Golden Retriever found on the front, you will find 12 true stories that showcase both loyalty, unconditional love all wrapped up in the service to their owners who do it without a fleeting thought. From the first person to take on using a guide dog, to other ways in which service dogs have been utilized to use their eyes to help those out who no longer have that sense of sight.

The best part of these stories is the relationships that are built upon the owner and their dog, as if in some way they become one, one team working together to make more enjoyable and restoring self confidence in those who have had their sight taken from them. These dogs stretch the potential in which they can be used not just in helping to guide their owners from the perils facing them without sight, but creating an everlasting bond that goes beyond words and connects them to the heart of the reader.

You get a chance to discover the back story of the very first guide dog who came to the United States with her own in the 1920's to create the first Guide Dog training school that was originally established in Switzerland. This came at a time when it was hard for society to accept having dogs allowed in public places like restaurants, trains and in public buildings where most had been refused entrance. It would go to show how this man and dog paved the way for more than just a school to teach dogs how to guide their owners but in establishing policies to allow others to utilize their own service dogs in the same manner.

I received Service Tails by Ace Collins compliments of Abingdon Press and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. Truly any dog lover would LOVE this book and would make an exceptional gift. There is already an unseen bond between dogs and their owners that this book truly brings to life in a remarkable and life changing world. I would easily give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars and there are even links within the book that take the readers to the websites of some of the service dog organizations featured in this book.

This book showcases 12 true stories of service dogs. Mr. Collins tells us that this is not a book that spotlights heroic dogs wildly tossing themselves into lifesaving situations. Yes, some of the dogs in this book have saved lives, but their purpose is service. Some save lives simply by their incredible commitment to duty and service. Some lead the way to independence for people whose disabilities were supposed to limit their lives. I recommend it highly, especially if you are a dog lover. I do believe you are going to want to reread this one sometime and will put it on your keeper shelf.

I love this book filled with heartwarming and heroic stories. Being a dog lover and owner, I know how intelligent, caring, and attentive our canine friends can be. My dogs are not service dogs, but they provide me with friendship and calm. The dogs in the book have gone through extensive training that helps them stay focused on their job, as a result you'll read about some amazing pups and the people they care for. From time to time we have therapy dogs visit the college where I work. Everyone is drawn to these kind creatures. They are especially appreciated during exam weeks when the students and staff are under extra stress. And just like in the book, they draw people to them. Every unique story in Service Tails shares one thing in common. Each person's service dog draws people to their owner which fills an otherwise lonely world. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in service dogs, dog lovers, and anyone who loves reading uplifting true-life stories. I received this book in exchange for a fair review.
