Sequential Spelling teaches word families through auditory (hearing the word), visual (seeing the correct word), kinesthetic (tracing the correct word) and oral (saying the word) channels. Children are allowed to have to the freedom to guess and learn from their mistakes, as tests are seen as opportunities to learn from student self-corrected mistakes, rather than a method of evaluation. By teaching words in word families, students will be learning and using vocabulary not normally learned until introduced in much later grades, giving them a head-start in much of their reading.
The Sequential Spelling Student Workbook features in-order blank spelling lists (unlike the student response book) with additional fun activities on the back of the page to help with reinforcement. Word searches, writing prompts, reviews, and fill-in-the-blank exercises are included for each lesson. Test included. Softcover. No word lists are included; those continue to be sold-separately in the teacher's book. Sequential Spelling Level 1.
The included teacher's guide accompanies Sequential Spelling Workbook 1, Revised Edition. This new, revised edition features updated teacher instructions and spelling lists, an answer key, and optional coordinating student workbook complete with daily "Using your Words" activities. Level 1 teaches word families in eight-week blocks; review is included throughout. Book Two teaches the word families ish, ar, ce, id, ude, alm, el, ful, dge, and more, building to words such as "edge", "dish", "jar" and "idea".
This kit includes:
- Sequential Spelling Teacher's Guide Level 1, 72 pages, softcover, Revised Edition
- Sequential Spelling Student Workbook Level 1, 376 pages, softcover.
In order to be able to effectively use Sequential Spelling 1, students should be able to read and spell at about a second grade level. Students should have a basic understanding of the phonetic sounds for each letter and be able to guess at the spelling of the words using that phonetic knowledge. It is not expected that they will guess the spelling correctly every time.

Homeschool Specialists' Review▼▲
Even though the student is given a spelling test every day as part of the curriculum, this test requires no prep or studying ahead for the student or parent. It allows practice with the building of the root words with no pressure of a grade. I wish I had known about this easy-to-use spelling program for my older children! Two softcovers each, from Wave 3 Learning.

Spelling for Boys!August 5, 2016alyeskamidwifePhoenix, AZAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My son is 8 yrs old and a struggling reader and a reluctant writer. In the past 6 months he has made significant improvements in reading, but still refused to attempt writing (except for copywork) because he feared spelling the words incorrectly. We've been using this curriculum for 2 weeks and already I can see significant improvement in his spelling and he has confidence to attempt writing in his other subjects. This curriculum is excellent for teaching vocabulary, too, because of the dictionary component of many lessons. My son loves the use of a dry erase board with differing colors of markers for root words, prefixes and suffixes. I highly recommend this product....Level 1 is perfect for my 3rd grade boy!
