I really enjoyed reading this book. Teaches you how to see what all is inside the Bible. Each chapter begins with a story then follows with a practical suggestion about how to properly read your Bible. It's well organized with several fresh and smart ideas to help you "see" more clearly what you are reading. Excellent for learning new reading skills too.

For the last several months I've often referred to this book as a reference when I wasn't getting any answers. With the suggested online resources, it was much easier to discover info on cultural and language barriers.

    Good resourceful material:

-How to distinguish the different genres. Narratives, poetry, prophecy, letters, etc.

-A concise OT /NT summary for getting chronologically oriented.

    -Doctrines we should know.

-Instruction in the OT narrative chapter revealed unseen things in the book of Jonah (good things to know when you are teaching kids).

-The application process is different than other how to read the Bible manuals (more spirtual transformational I think).

-And it was helpful to find a glossary for theological terms that I'll never remember otherwise.

I highly recommend this book and think that Christian book clubs might enjoy reading it and then doing a bible story to build some reading skills. The chapter stories are all delightfully funny (favorite one- I Twust You but I enjoyed them all). Anyone who would like to learn more about how to read the Bible should find this book readable and the skills very doable.

I really enjoyed this book. One unexpected hi light was the way the author gave an overviiew of the Bible. Very well done.

I recently had the opportunity to hear Mark Yarbrough deliver a sermon based on this book. I was so inspired by his teaching, I needed to learn more. As a relatively new Christian, this book has helped me understand the Bible in more ways than I can say. Although the title and cover aren't particularly inviting, I would suggest anyone, whether you are a new believer or a long time Christian, will find this a valuable addition to your library. It is easy reading, relatable, and inspiring. A great gift idea for a new Christian!

The book seemed to be just more of the "same o, same o." I expected a whole lot more out of a book with such a title. I learned more about how to read the Bible from The Teaching Company's course: How to Write Great Sentences.
