Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I was born in Greece in a clan that values faith, the oral tradition, the written word, the wealth of Greek culture, and all the wonder of the redeemed mind and heart. I came to the states to study in college when I was 16.

What was your motivation behind this project?  In reading the Bible I was struck by the fact that men wrote the books/stories; yet, despite the low status of women at the time, some of these women's memories could not be obliterated. They were so dynamic, so remarkable, that the men were obligated to tell their stories. I started wondering: what would the women themselves have written? What is it that women notice about other human beings (that men ignore); what do they feel about their God? What moves them about the action of God in their lives? I wanted to tell their stories from their perspective.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I want them to fall in love with the Bible and its richness. I want them to see the incarnational wonder--that these women were living, breathing, loving and suffering people, not one-dimensional characters in stories. I hope readers will go to the Bible with a new hunger, with open eyes and read without preconceived and faulty theology.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  C.S. Lewis and Dorothy L. Sayers were great influences in understanding an intelligent Christianity, deeply rooted in orthodoxy but not limited by literalism and fundamentalism. My father, who read us the Bible every night of our childhood years, inspired me with his faith; my grandfather who started the first evangelical church in Thessaloniki, Greece; my professors who were faithful Christians without losing their intellect and honesty; and all those who write honestly and beautifully.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  These books are not just for women; they are also for readers, for those who love the sound of the spoken word. They are written to be read aloud. There are not enough good literary pieces for dramatic use in churches; I wanted to offer them to dramatists of faith.
