Tell us a little about yourself. I was wife to my dear Richard for over 42 years. I have six grown kids, 15 terrific grandchildren and still counting. I've been speaking and writing for over 20 years encouraging women from all walks of life. I was a 17 year old baby when I had my first baby. I've learned a lot over the years and earned every strand of my gray hair. I am a very youthful senior citizen and I love singing with my four daughters. I also love cheez-its and I am a serious coffee drinker.
What was your motivation behind this project? I had no plans to write a book. It's hard work, but as I gave this talk over and over, everyone asked, "Where's your book." That prompted me to get going. I am working on my second book now, "Secure Marriages in a Shaky World."
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Younger women today are floundering. Their moms work full time, Home Economics is no longer offered in their schools, grandma lives across the country and the only examples they have for a wife and mom are from the sitcoms they see on television. I hope my readers will read my book and get back to basics.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Holding a copy of my book when it was first published was exhilarating. I wish I could give every young woman a copy because I know that my book will help them. It's not rocket science; it's basic information and if followed will change their lives.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The Lord has shown me what a wife and mom should look like. I did not come to know the Lord until I was 31. I will be ever grateful for older women in my life who mentored me and showed me what a godly woman looks like. It took time, but following God's plan works.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I have had wonderful responses to my book. It has been a joy to see a young woman read this book, then call me and say, "Judy, I love your book. It is so easy to read and it's simple enough and I can do this." Eating dinner at the table has changed our family and I am finding great books at the thrift stores to read to my kids This brings joy to my heart.
