Just when Keeley Stevens thinks that her life might possibly return to a semblance of normalcy following her sister's murder, she is blindsided by the accused, demanding "what is his". Keeley can only surmise that Tucker Rivendale has returned to Silver City, Oregon for his daughter; a daughter that Keeley mistakenly hoped that he did not know existed; three year old Junie, born with Down's syndrome and the light of Keeley's life.

To complicate matters, Mick Hudson, Rivendale's former parole officer, also shows up in Silver City, on a mission to apprehend Rivendale , and guilt- ridden over how he had misjudged his former parolee. Kelley wants nothing to do with the man who set her sister's murderer free, but when several attempts are made on Keeley's life, they reluctantly admit that there is more to the story than either of them imagined. Can Keeley and Mick work together long enough to discover the truth or will Keeley's independent nature and Mick's troubled past serve as a barrier to the future God may have intended for them all along?

"Secret Refuge" is a wonderful addition to Dana Mentnik's "Wings of Danger" series and its fast paced romantic suspense holds more than just a few surprises; friends just might be enemies and enemies just might be friends. It was my pleasure to receive a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm a sucker for a good romantic suspense, and this novel certainly fills the need to read. I enjoyed every heart-pounding minute of reading Mick and Keeley's story. The danger and the love added up to a too-short night of sleep for me. I just couldn't put it down. It's another one of those books that pulled me in and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page.

I received this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

If you haven't read Dana Mentink you are missing a treat. I read my first novel by her a little over a year ago. Her stand alones are even better than her category books. The characters are well developed, she shows how faith in God can help without being preachy about it. Take suspense, romance, action and murder all thrown together and you have the setting for "Secret Refuge". After only a one book I added Dana Mentink to my favorite authors list.

Mick was a parole office and when he trusted someone that he shouldn't and recommended parole be lifted. When the suspect commits murder, then Mick blamed himself for the murder of Keeley's sister. When the suspect is spotted in town he knows he has to protect Keeley. Even though he's no longer a parole officer or part of the police force he feels responsible and Keeley doesn't want anything to do with him.

Both have to learn to forgive themselves and others before they can move forward. This is an easy read but keeps your attention. I recommend anything by Dana Mentink. I received this book from Dana to read and to leave an honest review. All opinions are my own. I truly enjoyed this book.

Guilt can stay with a person for a long time! That is the situation that Mick Hudson finds himself in. As a former parole officer, he blames himself for the death of Keeley's sister. Even though I know parole officers are stretched to the limit with their caseloads, I can imagine a PO feels horrible when one of their parolees do something terrible while on parole. Tucker, the parolee, surfaces so Mick feels he needs to protect Keeley in case Tucker goes after her too. Keeley has no desire to let Mick near her because of the past but she comes to see that he is genuinely concerned for her safety. As the story takes many twists and turns, it kept me turning pages faster and faster! The author kept me guessing constantly about who did what! There is also a child involved that is so sweet and I loved the way Mick relates to her! I read the first book in this series and enjoyed seeing a couple characters return for this book, along with a return to the bird refuge. Kelley is a bird photographer so I liked learning a few new things about this hobby! I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend it!

I received this book from the author for an honest review, which I have given.

Hang on tight! This book gets off to a fast start. It is filled with

    chills, thrills, and unexpected twists!!!!

Secret Refuge is book two of Wings of Danger series but can

be read as a stand alone. The author makes the story and

characters easy to follow as she weaves together romance,

intrigue and mystery from the past and present.

Mike Hudson , a former Marine and Parole officer is haunted

by the past. Mike blames himself for the death of LeeAnn

Stevens by a man, Tucker who was suspected of her death.

Mike had recommend Tucker for parole prior to her death. He

will not let go of the demons who haunt him and will not forgive

    himself.

Now Tucker is out prison and taunting LeeAnns sister, Keeley

Stevens. Keeley is an independent photographer. She takes

pictures in the bird refuge. I enjoyed learning more about wild

birds of Oregon and her photography.

Mike sets out to protect Keeley but he is the last person she

    wants near her.

The tension was thick and well-sustained throughout the story.

There was an undeniable chemistry between the main characters.

The author was able to tackle the tough questions and issues

such as dysfunctional family life, deceit, betrayal, viciousness,

insecurity, monthly secret generosity, Downs Syndrome, faith,

friendship, trust, forgiveness, inspiration and love.

If you are looking for a book with drama, suspense, lots of

twists and turns plus captivating writing, read Secret Refuge .

Thank you Dana Mentink for allowing me to pre read this. My

    opinion is my own.
