Scofield is a good Bible for study. I love the thumb index. I'm giving 4 stars because I'm really disappointed in the cover. I bought genuine leather because there's just something nice about the feel of a genuine leather Bible. This feels stiff, like a bonded leather cover, and the leather is a strange, hard to define black, but not exactly black, ugly color, and it is very shiny. if I hadn't had it imprinted, I would return it.
I have owned and used the NIV Scofield since 1986, and sadly it is reaching its retirement (pages are full of notes with minimal space left in the margins). Came back to the Scofield due to the insight the notes provide. I'm glad the 84 edition was still available based on the way it reads. Being from Oxford Press, the quality appears what I expected based on the longevity of the one purchased in 1986. I only wished it was available without the thumbed index. Having never owned a thumb indexed Bible, this issue is something I can get used to, therefore minor.
