AmyMarylandAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Science in the Scientific RevolutionMarch 30, 2017AmyMarylandAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We recently finished the 3rd book in Dr. Jay L. Wile's chronological study of elementary science curriculum, entitled, Science in the Scientific Revolution. Our 3rd, 5th and 6th grade children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the scientific findings of the 1500's to the end of the 1600's. We met some of the well known scientists from that age such as Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton, as well as some not so well known but equally influential scientists. As any good natural philosopher would do, we studied concepts that focused on the human body, planets, and laws that govern our universe, to name a few. Being a no nonsense type of educator and mother of 10, I have to admit fun is not my top priority in choosing a science curriculum. However, I can attest that the fun experiments included in each of the 90 lessons showcases the author's objectives remarkably well. I believe the chronological study along with the memorable experiments combined with the age appropriate objective questions at the end of each lesson, engages and cements the concepts for our children. I was surprised to find how much my children did retain even from prior years when Dr. Wile would refer to his other volumes.
We are already looking forward to continuing our chronological study of science with Dr. Wile's next textbook of this series, Science in the Age of Reason.
