Scarlet Moon by S.D.Grimm is an amazingly intense young adult fantasy fiction novel. It is action packed right from the start with interesting narratives and great descriptions not only of the action but the world in which the characters live. With an evil queen, a black lion and unicorns balanced by deliverers, protectors, whisperers, and healers, the story just keeps getting better and better. The book begins with children of the Blood Moon being hunted for destruction. Children who have talents that served them much of the time but occasionally overwhelmed them...talents that people could see and the deeper hidden talents that people feared. The deliverers were born for a time of war. The Creator had placed them for a purpose but the fight seems doomed from the start. Could the war against the evil be won? Was there really any hope at all? Friendships, old and new, and family, loyalties and treachery. Faith in the Creator...did He really have a hand in this war of survival--survival of their folks, of their world--a world where evil was beginning to take hold. The characters are great...vivid, strong, evocative, likable...or not. There's a bit of romantic tension throughout the story and the intrigue and twists to the plot are first-rate page turners. A wonderful debut novel and I am so looking forward to the next in the series-Amber Eyes.

Wow! What a read!! Scarlet Moon by S.D. Grimm is a young adult fantasy/fiction novel which is not my favorite genre to read, but this book kept my interest to the end. I will say, to be for young adults, I would have to honestly rate it R due to the graphic description of the killing. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next. The book continuously kept me guessing. I thought I would have something figured out beforehand and low and behold, I would be wrong or my assumption not answered. The read left something unanswered for me, Who and where is Jaydens twin brother? I thought I knew, but it wasnt answered. Hmmm, probably the next book in this series will answer that question? There is evil and good throughout the book. All the Children of the Blood Moon were born the same night, marked with a birth mark, and possess different sets of powers. Two sets of the twins were delivered that were to prophesied to be Deliverers and be able to defeat the evil Queen Idla in the future. The story begins when these Children of the Moon are in their late teens. You will have to read the book to join the adventure. I received a copy from the author and publisher of The Book Club Network in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, wow, I cannot express how much I loved this book! I think that this might just be my favorite read for 2016! I really enjoyed this epic fantasy by S.D Grimm and I definitely encourage reading this book, but I do warn that perhaps it would be best to wait till the second book comes out before doing so because of the particularly intense ending of this book.

When I first started reading this book, I was a little confused when characters kept popping out of seemingly nowhere and I think that I would have been better able to understand the characters and the beginning of the story if there had been a character list of some sort. But once I got to know the characters a little better I came to like them so much that the confusion that I had at first had was quickly forgotten. I especially enjoyed reading about Jayden the uncertain main character, her adult guardian Logan and his wolf Westwind, Jaydens fianc Ryan who was always trying to be the funny guy even at the darkest of moments, and the fierce protector Ethan (especially Ethan) who was the funny guy, and so, so much more- Sigh.

There was a bit of violence in this book- lots of blood. It didnt really bother me much, but I can see how it could make someone with a weaker stomach squeamish.

And the ending yeah the ending stopped my heart, ripped it out of my chest, and left me wondering Say what now? What just happened? But I highly encourage reading all the way to the end of the book before you throw the book against the wall and storm to your computer to give the book a one star rating like I was getting ready to do- there is an epilogue (thank heavens)!

I have to warn that this book ends on a cliffhanger- and quite an intense one for me too, and I cannot wait until the second book comes out. Please, Grimm, Im on my hands and knees begging you, write the sequel fast! My poor nerves cant take the suspense.

I received a copy of this book for free through TBCN/Bookfun. I was not required to post a positive review and all views expressed are my own.

    Scarlet Moon

Children of the Blood Moon #1

    By S.D. Grimm

Someone is targeting the children who were born on the night of the Blood Moon and the fate of a world is in the balance. The Children of the Blood Moon all have an identifying birthmark and skills that have gifted them. But with people intent on capturing them no one is safe - not their families, their friends, or their villages.

With villages destroyed and evidence pointing to the Feravolk as the guilty party Queen Idla provides the comfort and encouragement the people seek. But evil is at work and not all is as it seems to be. And caught up in this onslaught of evil is Jayden, a young woman whose very family is destroyed by those seeking the gifted. But Jayden is more than just one of the Children of the Moon - she maybe one of the four Deliverers who were prophesied.

But surviving long enough to find out what exactly a Deliverer is suppose to be and do may take all of Jayden's skills along with those of her new allies and friends. Time is short and the danger is great. Bonds will be forged, sacrifices made, and lives will be lost. Loyalties will be questioned and evil will have its day. But who will win this battle and gain an advantage in the war that seems sure to be coming.

Scarlet Moon is one book you'll have trouble putting down if you like books that hint at something greater is yet to come. Fans of Jill Williamson's Kinsman Chronicles and Nadine Brandes's Out of Time series will love this debut. My only complaint is I now have to wait for the second book to come out. I highly recommend this book for fans of Speculative Fiction.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectation of a positive review or otherwise - all opinions expressed are my own.

The story begins with Jayden, a young girl expecting to be married, but the day before her wedding, Feravolk come into her village and destroy her home and kill her family. Now, she is on the run with only one ally left, her betrothed Ryan who was wounded by a poisoned arrow as they escaped from the Feravolk. While on the run she meets new allies and discovers that the evil queen Idla is hunting the children born on the night of the Blood Moon for the prophesied deliverers that will come and destroy the queen and free the land of her evil. Everyone is looking for children of the Blood Moon and Jayden doesnt know who she can trust. Will love protect her? Will the talents she has been gifted with help her save her people? Jayden may be one of the prophesied deliverers, but what chance does she have when she is full of doubt about herself, about others, her talents, and about love?

I would recommend this book to others because it is a good fantasy story full of adventures, heart-stopping moments, twists in the plot, and memorable characters. It has a few interesting themes and situations that create conflict in the book. For example, in the story, Jaydens people seem to be a magical people who are tied to the land, because if they die, the land dies with them (as mentioned in the book). One of themes in the book seems to be people connected to the land magically. One of the situations that occur in the story is that the main character falls for two men: her betrothed and his brother. The situation of a love triangle appears to be evident in the story which is meant to create further conflict in the story. Now, in my opinion, this is one of the few things that I dont agree with because its like instead of love, its an infatuation. Thats not necessarily a bad thing unless you act upon it, especially if youre getting married or already married to someone else. But I wont deny how it creates further conflict in the story, like the main character is still trying to figure out what love is. Other than that, its a well written fantasy story and I would like to see where the author takes these characters to in the next story, Amber Eyes.
