Tired of just surviving day to day life with little or nothing to show? Tired of marking off the same 10 items on your to do list only to feel like you should have accomplished 100 more? Say Goodbye to Survival Mode is the book for you.
Ms. Paine provides practical direction in setting and maintaining priorities. In a world that is set to do more, have more, be more, we get lost in busyness and that busyness affects lives, marriages, childhoods and futures. A favorite quote from the book: Id rather do a few things well, have my priorities in order, and enjoy life than to try and do two hundred things poorly and have a stressed-out, exhausted, passionless existence. (Loc164). That pretty much sums up the point of this book.
The author uses great quotes from other experts like Stephen Covey, You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage-pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically, to say no to other things, and the way you do that is by having a bigger yes burning inside, the enemy of the best is often the good. (Loc 164)
Say Goodbye to Survival Mode is a great book for women of all ages. I enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it. I received this book from Netgalley and Nelson Books in exchange for my honest opinion which Ive provided here.
This book would be excellent for a person with a Type A personality who finds herself spinning too many plates. This book was not for me. Just reading it gave me anxiety. I don't like taking on too much in my life, and even reading about her life, after she cut back on things, made me feel stressed. Practical tips and great goal setting plans, though.
I am pretty sure that every woman and especially every mom has felt before like they were in Survival mode, just going through the motions and the daily routine. I was excited when I got the opportunity to receive a free copy of this book to review because I have been following Crystal's blog for several years, and she always has great tips, so I knew that her book would be helpful as well. She talked so well about how we as women feel the pressure to do it all, and then we end up overwhelming ourselves because we have so much on our plates. The book is full of practical tips on how to set goals that are realistic and achievable as well as how to be more disciplined to get it done. She uses personal stories on how she gets things done, and how she knows when she needs to say no to something. She talks about setting priorities which has been something that I have realized recently is so important. I love how she talks about figuring out what is really important and doing those things instead of overwhelming ourselves with to many things that we think we are supposed to be doing. I took away from the book that if I want to do things well I need to make sure that I am not committing myself to too many things, and especially to too many things that are not important just because I think that it is what I am supposed to be doing. If you are looking for practical tips on how to maximize your time and be intentional with your life, I think you would love this book. Crystal is down to earth and so real, and the book reads as if you are chatting with a good friend over coffee.
Money Saving Mom is one of my favorite blogs, so getting the opportunity to review Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine was exciting! In the book she includes 10 chapters that incorporate "9 simple strategies to stress less, sleep more, and restore your passion for life." Every aspect of your life that you may struggle with is covered. Each chapter took me about 30 minutes to read. The book is interactive. You can write your goals right in the book.
I felt that this book gave me a renewed energy and passion for getting back to the things that matter. I had a hard time putting it down. In fact, I am re-reading it now. I love that most of the suggestions in the book are practical. I can take what Crystal suggests and apply it to my own life in my own way. Rarely do I mark in books, but I could not stop myself from underlining things that stood out to me.
My favorite chapter was on giving and making a difference. I have often thought there is nothing I can do because of limited budgets, time, etc. I certainly learned differently! I highly recommend Say Goodbye to Survival Mode if you are just struggling through your days wondering when things will get better. It's time to take action with your life!
This book was provided for me by BookLook. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are mine.
This 230-page Say Goodbye to Survival Mode book is packed with Crystal's personal story along with interviews and encouragement from others who have broken free from survival mode. As I read the scenarios, I could have easily substituted my name into many of their stories.
Realizing that I'm not alone in survival mode, I found the 9 simple strategies a way through the dark tunnel into a stress-free, manageable lifestyle. You'll love this book!
