AKFOSTERMOMMYSpokane, WAAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Saxon surpasses expectations!August 15, 2013AKFOSTERMOMMYSpokane, WAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I homeschooled, I used Saxon in highschool. I loved it! The instructions were simple to understand and I didn't need anyone's help/tutoring to do my work.
When I began homeschooling my own children (much younger than high school). I was told by other parents to stay away from Saxon. "Too time consuming" was the general complaint. I spent 2 years with another program that was great, but not spiral. My kids kids were excellent with current math concepts, but forgot past ones (subtraction, borrowing, regrouping, etc.). My children also didn't know how to tell time consistently, read a calendar, and struggled with months of the year & days of the week. I had hoped this would come together on it's own, but it hadn't.
After joining a co-op that promoted Saxon and talking with parents that had similar experience with other math curriculums & similar hesitations with Saxon... they reassured me it was the best decision they ever made! (Math-wise).
I tested my boys for the proper level. I was EMBARRASSED that my boys (3rd & 4th grade), who were "ahead in math", tested into K Saxon. Again, moms from my co-op reassured me. They said to start with 1st grade, because it covers Kindergarten again.
I received my Saxon 1. I LOVE IT!!!! I think the lessons will go quickly. Both my boys have gaps in understanding quantities of time (hours, days, weeks, months, etc.). Saxon has a GREAT way to teach those. Because my boys only have gaps in their math, I think most of these lessons will go quick, while others will take more time. I am grateful to find something to help with those gaps.
Because math is important to me, I want them to catch up. Saxon is set up to complete 4 lessons a week + one review day. I hope to do 5 lessons a week OR 30 minutes a day and however easy/hard a lesson is... is how far we get that day. I see some days completing 2 lessons, others 1.
This is a long review, but it took me a long time to go with Saxon. I hope I answered any similar questions/concerns you may have had. -
Addyj095 Stars Out Of 5Excellet Math ProgramDecember 17, 2015Addyj09Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This is the second set of work books we have purchased. We love Saxon Math for our kids. Our older daughter has used Saxon from the get go and now we just started our son with it. When we started Saxon with our daughter I started Saxon 1 in Kindergarten under the recommendation of a friend, and I am glad that I did. Everything with Saxon is reviewed multiple times throughout the year. I was a little worried to start my Kindergarten son in Saxon 1, but so far he has done great with it, and even asks if we can do his "new" math. Saxon is a solid math program and my kids love the manipulates that go with the program. Every year when we do our state required standardized tests, our children excel in the math portion, largely in part of how thoroughly Saxon presents the material.

HappyMom5 Stars Out Of 5Great ProductOctober 24, 2014HappyMomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is such a great product for those of us who need instructions on how to instruct!
All concepts are explained several ways to ensure that your child actually learns. We have used Saxon for years with our older child and will continue to use it for our younger children. -
Jennifer Turner5 Stars Out Of 5Highly recommendMay 15, 2012Jennifer TurnerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Saxon Math home kits/books are fantastic. They qualify for "blended" math in home school programs, they are "spiral learning" style so the kids learn something new and review something old making sure they don't forget. This program keeps you slightly ahead of provincial grade. Both of my kids love it. One part with calendar, one part hands on manipulative, and one part written practice. It covers all learning styles and works very well.
