Saxon Math Homeschool 6/5 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts.
Building upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 65 textbook covers concepts such as: the order of operations; geometry and measurement; integers; divisibility concepts; ratios; statistics and probability; prime and composite numbers; patterns and sequences; and powers and roots. Students will specifically learn about making a multiplication table, adding/subtracting fractions with a common denominator, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, perimeter, simple probability, decimal parts of a meter, reciprocals, volume, square roots, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and more.
Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises); introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which includes 25-30 old and new problems. In-depth "Investigations" are provided every 10 lessons, and have their own set of questions. Math 6/5 also includes 6 in-lesson activities and 5 investigation activities.
The Tests and Worksheetsbook provides supplemental "facts practice" tests for each lesson, as well as 23 cumulative tests that cover every 5-10 lessons. The included "activity sheets" are designed to be used with the activities given in the student worktext. Five optional, reproducible, recording forms are also included.
The Solutions Manual provides answers for all problems in the lesson (including Warm-up, lesson practice, and mixed practice exercises), as well as solutions for the supplemental practice found in the back of the student text. It also includes answers for the facts practice tests, activity sheets, and tests in the separate tests & worksheets book.
Saxon Math 6/5 is designed for students in grade 5, or grade 6 students who are struggling with math.

We used Saxon 5/4 last year and love the layout of the book. It allows my son to take charge of his own learning. With some training on how to use the book, my son can refer back to previous lessons when needed and move through a lesson on his own. We both love it.

Ask a Question▼▲
Q: Are Saxon homeschool versions Common Core aligned? I'm looking for NON-Common Core math!
Saxon math has not been updated to correspond with the common core.
Q: Are the tests included in this kit?
Yes, this kit includes the "Tests & Worksheets" book.
Q: which math book would you recommend for the grade 9 level.
As a general rule Algebra 1 is recommended for grade 9. Since every student is different, we recommend administering a "Saxon Placement Exam". Select the "Homeschool" tab at the top of our web page, then select the "Saxon" tab located under the main tabs. You will find the link to the free PDF test document there.
