hollyb5 Stars Out Of 5Saxon MathJuly 8, 2015hollybQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We've used Saxon Math since the beginning of our home school venture, starting with Math 1. We used Saxon 5/4 last year and love the layout of the book. It allows my son to take charge of his own learning. With some training on how to use the book, my son can refer back to previous lessons when needed and move through a lesson on his own. We both love it.

Darcie5 Stars Out Of 5June 18, 2009DarcieThis course has three parts: daily lessons, tests, and investigations. The daily lessons start with the equivalent of mad minutes. You decide how long your child has up to 5 min.. Following this is mental math. This a great addition; on average it takes around 5-10 min. Next is the actual math lesson. The text at the beginning of each lesson is grade appropriate and your child could read this and proceed to the lesson practice on their own, though probably not the best way to go about this. Lesson practice is a series of 5-20 or so problems, depending on the lesson. These problems are specific review for the material that you just covered. Completing everything through the lesson practice should take about 45 min. The final part is the mixed review, this is usually 29 problems and is a very comprehensive review taking around 30-45 min to complete. Some lessons also have additional practice in the back of the book. We do everything through the lesson practice in the morning and the mixed in the afternoon. Beginning with lesson 10 there is a test after every 5 lessons. After every 10 lessons is an investigation. They take about 30 minutes to complete and cover a variety of things from fractions to problem solving methods. I cant recommend this strongly enough, it is everything a math curriculum should be, including flexible. In the past I have read reviews that stated that this was below grade level, I dont find that to be correct. Math 6/5 is about right for the 5th grade. Taking these books in order by the end of 8th grade your child will be ready to start Algebra, which is where they are supposed to be. More importantly they will have a good grasp on everything covered.

Tarah5 Stars Out Of 5Tried and TrueSeptember 27, 2018Tarahwe have used saxon math for three years now and I like that the new lesson is presented to the students so that they can self teach and then work the problems. Then I can go back after they are finished and check the problems with them and correct and teach as needed.
