Great math program! I purchased this for our homeschool instead of having math online due to my child REFUSING to take notes in order to solve the problems. A book works better for him.

Looks like a good product but large parts could be a little remedial for some students

I had my child take the Saxon placement test, but the results weren't very cut and dried. He did equally well with some of the more advanced materials as he did with some of the easier problems, which probably reflects the uneven teaching that is done in many schools. There is a lack of repetition and focus which means that skills are not always solidly learned. I ordered the 8/7 to give him a little more practice with the "easier" items. The book is well-written and very thorough with explanations, but I think it would be a little frustrating to have him go through each lesson (as Saxon recommends not skipping anything) when some of the material is clearly without any challenge. Fortunately, Christian Book has graciously allowed me to return and exchange for the Algebra 1/2 book, which has some review of the basics, but not as much as 8/7. The Algebra 1 book was clearly too advanced, so hoping the 1/2 wlll be a better fit.

I had an older version of 8/7 but I bough this new edition because it has little lesson numbers in parentheses in problems that you can go back and look up the concept in earlier lessons if you don't remember. Some people complain about the repetition but I like that because some kids need to practice over and over to get some concepts. Dive CD is helpful but the textbook is easy to understand that you can use it without teaching video.
