Focusing on algebraic reasoning and geometric concepts, Saxon Math Homeschool 5/4 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts.
This Saxon 54 textbook covers concepts such as whole number concepts and computation; arithmetic algorithms, geometry and measurement; elapsed time; fractions, decimals and percents; powers and roots; estimation; patterns and sequences; congruency and similarity; and statistics and probability. Students will specifically learn to add three-digit numbers, subtract numbers with re-grouping, read time, write numbers, estimate arithmetic answers, divide with two-digit answers, multiply three or more factors, simplify fraction answers, use a decimal number line, and more.
Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises), an introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which include 25-30 old and new problems. In-depth "Investigations" are provided every 10 lessons, and have their own set of questions. Math 5/4 also includes 8 in-lesson activities and 5 investigation activities. The back of the book contains supplemental problems for selected lessons and concepts.
627 pages, softcover. 120 daily lessons, 12 investigations, and an illustrated glossary included.
Please Note: This product is only available for purchase by homeschools, consumers, and public institutions.

E5 Stars Out Of 5Thorough, clean, and lends itself well to self-teachingJuly 17, 2017EQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5The other two reviews here at the time of my review are nearly 10 years old. I'm not sure how similar the current edition's text/language is to what they used then, but this advertised edition mentions nothing that a Christian would find troublesome or even mildly concerning. It's clean ... and even informative (i.e., historical and geographical facts presented in word problems)
I really appreciate how well organized and clear the lessons are. A child who does well with reading comprehension will be able to complete the work independently.
Sharlene Cornelius4 Stars Out Of 5November 2, 2007Sharlene CorneliusThis is an excellent math program. It is easy for a home-school mom to use, and it gives a good foundation for upper level math. It is not a Christian publication so there are story problems that may mention things at a Christian might not agree with. They are few, but they can be a means of initiating a discussion to reinforce beliefs.
Rachel Mcconnell4 Stars Out Of 5October 1, 2007Rachel McconnellThis is the first year we are doing homeschooling and I am pleased that Saxon Math curriculum is offered for homeschoolers. My daughter had this program at school so we are able to continue from where she started!

Q: Is this a consummable text or re-usable? Is the student text something that would be written in by the student or does it contain work that is to be copied to paper?
This text is designed to be non-consumable, with the student recording their answers on a separate sheet of paper; however, some people do choose to have their students write in the book.
