Homeschool Mom5 Stars Out Of 5Great!October 1, 2016Homeschool MomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My 5 year old loves it. I like the repetition. It helps to reinforce concepts. The worksheets are great. He does one with me and the other in the evening with daddy as "homework". Since we plan on year round schooling, I just adjust the meeting book to fit. Glad there was a placement test for my kindergartener. My 4 year old is in Math K. Both love working with the counting bears, the linking cubes, & the pattern blocks. We look forward to doing math everyday. Fantastic curriculum.

marieg5 Stars Out Of 5December 25, 2013mariegQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love the program ! I am a teacher and have taught for 20 years. I taught in the public school system for 13 years. I have used the program for homeschool and in the public school system. The program is easy to use and I like how coloring is used to help with some of the math concepts.
AarikaCalgary, CanadaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5AmazingNovember 28, 2013AarikaCalgary, CanadaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My son is in grade 1 and LOVES doing math because of this curriculum! It is well planned with little things like the workbook being opened from bottom to top instead of left to right like a regular book. Either a right or left handed person can easily work on each page. The use of manipulatives is essential in my opinion to really make this curriculum shine. Fantastic!
Brooke2 Stars Out Of 5LackingNovember 24, 2013BrookeQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1I was sort of thrown into homeschooling and needed a math curriculum quickly. I was told by a few people to try Saxon. I was thoroughly disappointed. It is extremely boring and repetitious. My 4 year old was able to do these problems (no formal schooling). I was also disappointed in some of the manipulatives. The linking cubes are very hard to put together. My 6 year old struggled and it was impossible for my 4 year old. The clocks were very confusing. If you set the time for 10:45 it looks like 11:45. I ended up buying a $1.00 clock from a dollar store.
Q: Is it essential that I purchase the manipulatives when using Saxon Math 1?
If you already own some of the basic items that are included in the kit you don't need to purchase the complete manipulative kit. The following items, available individually, are required for grade 1: Dominoes, ruler, Geoboard, Linking Cubes, Pattern Blocks, Balance, & Student Clocks.
