I really enjoyed this book...it shows an Amish man who...even though he is totally devoted to his faith...family and community...as most of the Amish people are...but it changes for Gideon...when he loses a big piece of that...his family...his wife and child...he wants to get away...from everyone who is familiar to him...and this is not their way...the Amish way...but he just doesnt want to be around them...or anyone in fact...but what happens when a pretty Englischer woman comes into the picture...will he follow life again...with his heart leading??? I really enjoy all of Amy Lillard's books...I have said it before...her books always keep me wanting more...I can never put the book down until the end...so many times...I have read her book for a full 36-48 hours...just so I could read it to the end ...they keep my full attention...and they are so full of details...things you don't find in other books from the same genre...she knows what she is talking about...every step of the way...the Amish ways...and so much more!!! My favorite book genre is Amish Fiction/Romance...then next is Contemporary Romance...which I also came to enjoy because of Amy Lillard...because of a book called "Loving a Lawman"...which she wrote...another wonderful book... I absolutely cannot wait...to read her next book!!!
Saving Gideon was a book of a 3 part series by Amy Lillard. It was great. I have now read 2 of the books of this series and definitely want to read the one I haven't read yet. although this is can be a stand alone book, as well.
This story of heartache for both parties defined how together they restored the direction of both their lives and helped each other to gain back the trust and happiness both had lost.
I really enjoy Amy Lillard's Amish books. She really seems to have a definite connection with the ideals and the shortcomings of human nature and the need to find God in each of our lives.
The storyline was unique and interesting. The book held my attention and I had a hard time putting it down. I will continue reading books by this author. She is GOOD.
They were from two very different worlds..Avery Annie Hamilton and Gideon Fisher. Annie came from wealth and lived the life that went with it in Dallas, TX. Gideonwell, Gideon was Amish. He was a member of a small community in Clover Ridge, OK.
Their worlds met by accidentliterally.on a snowy night. Annie had gone to OK to surprise her fianc only to be the one surprised by his unfaithfulness. With tears in her eyes and snow coming down, she lost control of her car and ran off the road and into Gideons field. He thought hed heard a horn blowing and went out to investigate. Thats when he found a pretty Englisher with her head leaning on the horn of the car.
Annies wounds needed healing (not just the physical ones) and Gideon needed healing in his heart. His wife and only child had drowned during a storm and he just didnt want to go on living without them. He had sold their family farm and separated himself from his community and church.
Read this well written story to find out how they helped each other. Its a beautiful story of friendship, forgiveness, healing, love and finding their way back to God. Even though Ive read this book several times, I have never been ready for it to end! Thank you Amy Lillard for a wonderful read!!
Wow! Amy Lillard created a beautiful story with Saving Gideon. I was caught up in the story right from the start. The characters were well developed.
Gideon Fisher rescues Avery Ann Hamilton from her wrecked automobile during a snowstorm and takes her to his home. Gideon doesn't live close to anyone and he prefers it that way. But yet he allowed this Englisher to stay in his home. What will happen when his niece brings food over for Gideon to eat? Will a relationship develop and who is going to save Gideon from himself?
Read this heartwarming novel. I felt like I was right there with each character experiencing the heartache, devotion, despair, love and faith each one experienced. 5 stars for Saving Gideon. Amy did an excellent job of bringing an Englisher into the community of Clover Ridge and how lives could be renewed with God's faithfulness and love. Pick up a copy of Saving Gideon today and you will not be disappointed.
I stumbled upon Miss Lillard's work entirely by accident but boy am I glad I did!
She is a true artist - painting a vivid picture with her words, that gives you the feeling that you could just step right in.
It's a wonderful read.
I feel it is only fair to warn you that your time may be in danger with this book. Once you pick it up, you will not want to put it down.
The story flows so flawlessly, it rushes by your eyes and you will completely lose track of how long you've been reading.
The idea of converting to the Amish faith has become something of a phenomenon among readers and writers alike. And it has become increasingly difficult to present a new take on the idea or a story that doesn't sound like a mirror image of every other one already out there.
But Amy Lillard has succeeded there. Her story is definitely original. Her characters are individual and her voice is intriguing.
She has an exceptional talent for writing a view of the Amish community through the eyes of a pampered Englisher and writing the view of that same Englisher through the eyes of a somewhat surly Amish man.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story about life, loss and love.
Whether you enjoy Amish fiction or just Christian fiction, this story will appeal because there is enough of both worlds within the pages.
I can't wait to move on to the next book in the series and I hope we have many more series from Amy Lillard to look forward to.
