Publisher's Description

A comprehensive, dynamic, and eminently practical presentation of the biblical teaching on salvation. In discussing the facets of the working out of salvation -- the role of the Spirit, union with Christ, the gospel call, regeneration, conversion, repentance, and so on -- Hoekema does away with the classical ordo salutis ("order of salvation") by viewing these facets largely as simultaneous aspects in the process of salvation rather than sequential steps on the way to salvation.

Editorial Reviews

Reformation and Revival
"In a day when thoroughgoing study of the doctrine of salvation has been jettisoned as impractical and irrelevant by the church at large, Saved by Grace serves an essential purpose. . . If you want your mind challenged by the lucid exposition of Scripture in relationship to the technicalities of God's saving work, if you want your passion rekindled regarding the manifold grace of God in the salvation of sinners, this book is for you. Buy it. Absorb it. Make its contents the preeminent message of your ministry."

    Awesome study of salvation

Couldn't put it down once I started reading it. This is my favorite book on soteriology. Kinda tough sledding, but in my opinion, Hoekema makes difficult topics pretty easy to understand, especially compared to other theologians/teachers of his caliber. You will profit from reading this.

This book is a valuable resource for understanding Reformed Soteriology - the doctrines of Sovereign Grace are explained thoroughly - I especially was ministered to on the chapter of Union with Christ - My only contention is with Hoekema's interpretation of 2 Peter 3:9, Matt. 23:37, 2 Corinth. 5:20 and Ezekiel 3:11 (pgs. 75-79) which he does not appropriate the contexts of each of these passages - believing that we should refuse rationalistic positions and "_not lock God up in the prison of human logic" - Karl Barth is quoted in reference to Justification - what he states is not neo-orthodox in nature but may cause those who understand Barth to read closely - Though there is a variety of positions held in Calvinism in regards to Limited Atonement - Hoekema's position as what I determined from the book is that the Atonement is ‘efficient only for' the elect not a ‘sufficient for all' but only effectual for' the elect position.
