Publisher's Description

In Sarah Collins’s mind, only one thing stands in the way of her success . . . an unborn baby.

Sarah is about to receive a promotion that will give her everything she’s ever wanted: a huge pay increase, a new car, a fabulous apartment, and first-class travel.

But then she discovers she’s pregnant. And while she thinks she loves her boyfriend, Matt, she isn’t sure he’s mature enough to be a responsible father. And the job she’s pursuing is open only because the previous employee is out on maternity leave. Sarah would never be able to handle the travel as a single mom.

Torn between advice from her coworkers, the insistence of her mother and sister that she keep the baby, her insecurity about her relationship with Matt, and the void where her father should be, Sarah has no idea how to make this decision.

A Christmas card from a mysterious old woman is the catalyst for three visions of her future—and just may be the miracle she needs. But can she trust the visions? Are they the yearnings of a conflicted heart? Or are they true visions from the God she thought had turned His back on her?

For every woman who has made painful decisions, Sarah’s Choice offers comfort, wisdom and hope.

"This story provides a bit of encouragement and hope to those facing a difficult decision." —Romantic Times, 4-star review

"A thought-provoking and stirring story of painful choices and their ramifications. For any woman who has had to make a difficult decision, this book . . . will provide inspiration, hope, and solace to battered souls." —Library Journal

"Written with deep compassion, gentle humor, and incredible insight." —CBA Retailers + Resources

If I hadn't already seen the movie I think I would have been a little lost in this book near the end. I absolutely am pleased with the pro life stance it takes. It's just the lady with the card and the Christmas Carol flavor to it wasn't too clearly done. It was good to see Sarah come back to her roots of Christianity through this trial. Her pregnant co worker was truly amazing! What a great friend! It was quite interesting and mostly you didn't want to put it down. But frustrating in that you wanted her to give the father a break a lot sooner.

Sarah has a great boyfriend and an incredible job promotion right in front of her. But a surprise pregnancy turns her world upside down. Suddenly, her job is in jeopardy and everyone has an opinion on what she should do next. Sarah's relationships begin to crumble until she feels completely alone. But then she receives a Christmas card that gives her dreams about what her future could be like, depending on the decisions she makes regarding her unborn child, and she begins to wonder if God really might love her and have a greater plan.

    My Thoughts:

Sarah's Choice is a powerful story of the value of all life, whether it's the life of a young woman caught in her sin, a man with some growing up to do, or an unborn baby created for a purpose. Yes, Sarah gets pregnant outside of marriage, but the story thoroughly explores all of the consequences of her choice. The big choice, though, concerns the life of her unborn baby. It'd be easy to say this is a pro-life book, and it is, but it doesn't just pedal a message. Instead, St. James and Rue beautifully and powerfully introduce us to a realistic cast of characters who are very believable in their interactions with themselves, each other, and God. The story deals with some real topics, but in a way that brings hope and shows the power of God's desire to redeem us.

    In Conclusion:

The movie version of this story (starring Rebecca St. James) released several years ago, and I really enjoyed it. But the book delves even deeper into the lives of these characters. It's a story that takes place in the middle of a mess, but the authors don't leave us there. Without going into spoilers, I'll say you'll walk away with a renewed passion for giving a voice to the unborn and seeing others through the eyes of Jesus.

Though I never saw the movie version of this story, I had heard good things about it...and since books are really more my comfort zone anyway, I decided to give Sarah's Choice a go.

I really wanted to love this book, since I'm so supportive of the pro-life movement, but the writing style really threw me for a loop. I'm not sure what it was about it, but I found it really confusing. Also, since Sarah is not a Christian at the beginning of the book, she has made some very ungodly life choices (obviously) and though there was nothing explicit, there were some conversational things that made me a little uncomfortable.

However, as the book when on, I felt the writing became less confusing...I started getting pulled into the story...and I started to care about the characters. Sarah's Choice is not my favorite book by any means. And maybe that's partly because contemporary fiction that takes place in present day isn't really my thing. Sarah's Choice isn't a "for fun" book. It's very, very serious. And yet it has its moments of humor, many moments of God's hand working in the lives of His people, and a wonderful, thought-provoking message.

I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Nancy Rue and Rebecca St. James return for another joint effort with "Sarah's Choice", a novel that follows the emotional journey of a woman who is caught in a situation where every option seems to be an impossible choice. Sarah has turned her back on God after the loss of her father, yet at the same times blames him for abandoning her. After taking on the financial burden of paying off the debts he left behind so that her mother is not crushed under the bills, Sarah is focused on getting a promotion that will help her start living again. She is convinced that the pay increase, followed by a new car and apartment, will turn her bleak life around. When she finds out she's pregnant, she doesn't believe she can count on her boyfriend to stand by her as he's never shown himself to be responsible but is always chasing one scheme after another. As all the people in her life try to make her choose the path they feel is best for her, Sarah must discover what she believes, and find the courage to make the right choice.

As with their prior collaboration (The Merciful Scar), I greatly enjoyed this latest book from these talented authors. While the book is primarily aimed at women, I think that anyone would enjoy delving into this story, and discovering the plans God has for our lives. The issue of abortion is a difficult one indeed, both for women and for men who are also impacted by the decision to end the life of a child. The authors have done a fantastic job at looking at the issue from many different angles, exploring the many reasons abortion is considered, and the terrible emotional fallout arising from such decisions. I also like the mysterious supernatural element to the story where Sarah is given visions of the possible future should she choose to keep the baby or abort. Other deep themes like forgiveness and reconciliation are also explored, along with the role of men as fathers and the need for men to man up and take responsibility for their choices as well. The words flow smoothly, and I found my emotions to be deeply engaged as I read through the story. The characters are realistic and ones I easily connected with, and I found myself wishing I could meet them again in future novels!

Poignant, moving, and ultimately hopeful, "Sarah's Choice" is a wonderful book. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Sarah's Choice by Rebecca St. James and Nancy Rue was a journey of love and guidance and the many decisions we have to embark on in our lives. We are our own heroes and though it may not seem like it we are completely in charge of all the steps that get us to where we need to be in life. Sarah may never have thought she was ready to take the next big step in her life, but God knew she was and that was all that mattered. She would be able to handle all of the ups and downs and still have that successful life she wanted from the moment she could achieve it. Sarah may have had a few changes of heart, but she knew He was going to be right there beside her to guide her through the battle of life and through the beauty of her journey because she is stronger than she ever thought. This was a story that left me with a ball of hope and a happy heart. I was given a review copy and all opionions are my own.
