But when her mother suddenly passes away it appears that Trish may have mixed up her medication by mistake. Detective Colin Flynn is handling the case and at first it appears that Trish's mother's death is just a terrible accident. Trish is still having memory lapses and is thankful for her mother's accountant Matt who manages her mother's charity. Trish's mother would have liked nothing better than for Trish and Matt to get together. But there is no chemistry between the two of them and when Matt's behavior changes after her mother's passing, Trish becomes suspicious and enlists Colin to look into Matt's background. What at first appears to be a squeaky clean background soon turns up some pretty shady dealings that could put Trish at risk. Will Colin be able to find out all he needs to know before Matt's past catches up with him?
Wow! Dangerous Illusions had some amazing twists and turns and kept me turning the pages until the end! It was filled with suspense and deception and a bit of romance, the perfect trio of things I love in a story. Just when I thought I had everything figured out I'd turn the page and another twist would present itself! Dangerous Illusions will keep you awake into the early hours even when you tell yourself, "Just one more chapter." But you still have to continue on to find out what happens next. I can't wait for the next books in the series because I really enjoyed Colin's friends and look forward to reading their stories.
Bekah5 Stars Out Of 5The Twists Had Twists!October 14, 2017BekahQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I first read Irene Hannon as a small-town-romance-book author and still adore her in that genre. But she is also a gifted suspense writer, and Dangerous Illusions falls into that category. This book actually kicks off a brand new series called Code of Honor, and it's a nail-biter all the way through to the end.
To say that Trish Bailey's life is full is an understatement. Teaching school takes up more than the classroom hours. Lesson plans and late evenings add up quickly, and it seems whenever she's not working, she's caring for her ailing mother. But when Trish comes home one night to find her mother dead in their home, she realizes some eyes are on her as the culprit.
Detective Colin Flynn isn't convinced Trish is behind the mysterious death of her mother, but he also can't deny the odd facts before him, which certainly don't put her in a positive light. He's also not fond of Matt, the Bailey family's accountant who seems to be semi-dating Trish. But when Trish's own life becomes endangered, Colin realizes he's more than just intrigued as a detective. He has real feelings for the troubled, grieving teacher.
Like I said, I've read Irene's suspense before, so I knew this would be a twisting, turning book, but it went beyond the norm! The twists had twists, and that's what caused me to forget breathing for a while. And yet woven into the suspense is a clear and gentle faith, which I always appreciate from Irene's writing. She doesn't hide from the reality of our world's depravity, but she also doesn't hide the reality of God's grace.
Faith, romance, relationships, suspense, intrigue...there's a little bit of all of it within these pages! The nail-biting took me clear to the final page. I'm excited to read book two whenever it releases! (Tomorrow? Can it be tomorrow?)

Sunnymeadows4 Stars Out Of 5Intriguing Suspense!October 10, 2017SunnymeadowsQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Irene Hannon is one of my favorite authors in the Christian Suspense genre. I was excited to read it, but I should have known better than to start it late in the evening, because I couldn't put it down! The main character, Trish, has had a lot of sad, life-changing events happen in the last couple of years. When she unexpectedly finds her mother dead after returning home from a movie, she is in shock. The detective assigned to the case is very kind to her and they are immediately drawn to each other, but first he must solve the crime and make sure she isn't involved. What follows are a lot of plot twists that leave the reader racing to turn the page to see what happens next. A very enjoyable novel by Irene Hannon. I look forward to reading the next one she writes in this series and highly recommend this book!
Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Clever bad guy, high suspense, and nice charactersOctober 9, 2017Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"Dangerous Illusions" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the first book in a new series, but it's also a stand-alone novel. It's one of my favorite by this author. Trish has been through a lot of loss and heartbreak. She's used to taking care of herself (and others), so she initially had a hard time "bothering" Colin to ask for help. But even though she's independent, she was sensible and wasn't stubborn about having her own way.
We know who the cruel bad guy is and his goals, so we can see the danger even when Trish has every reason to think there is none. Still, Trish did start putting the pieces together pretty quickly, told her idea to Colin, and he promptly investigated the angle she suggested. I liked that he was supportive, caring, and respected her. While I strongly suspected how the end suspense was going to play out, I still had a pounding heart as I read it, partly because she was afraid and I cared about what she was going through.
The main characters were Christians, though Colin started out feeling like praying was pointless. We mainly saw their faith through how they treated people and what they cared about. There were no sex scenes or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful, intriguing novel.

Ashley S.4 Stars Out Of 5Four StarsOctober 9, 2017Ashley S.Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Trish Bailey has had a tough couple years and is devastated by a new loss, worrying that it was somehow her fault. Detective Colin Flynn's instincts tell him Trish is innocent of any wrongdoing, but he has to do his job and investigate the case thoroughly. She's been experiencing strange instances of confounding memory lapses, attributing it to the stress and grief. But could something more sinister be at work?
I always look forward to Irene Hannon's latest romantic suspense. She sure knows how to write compelling and unputdownable suspense. She has a way of crafting truly chillingly evil villains that set my nerves on edge. And this villain is quite horrible. The prologue definitely hooked me, but the pace was a tad slow for the first part of the book. But before long, it picked up. I thought I had everything figured out, but then there was a big twist that changed everything. I never felt much of a connection to the characters, but the mystery and danger kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. I really loved seeing some familiar faces from a couple of Hannon's previous series pop up.
Lovers of romantic suspense are sure to enjoy Dangerous Illusions.
