Publisher's Description

When her high-profile search for romance led Emily Maynard to dead end after dead end, real love finally found her.

Millions know Emily Maynard Johnson from her unprecedented double appearances on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Millions also know that neither of the relationships from those shows lasted much longer than a commercial break.

Overcome with embarrassment following her nationally televised failures at romance, Emily finally committed her heart to the only one she knew would never leave her empty and alone. Abandoning her desire to be chosen by men and finding peace in the fact that she was already chosen by God, Emily found the joy she had been looking for in serving God.

In I Said Yes, Emily tells the story of her life before and after reality TV fame, describing the profound new reality she discovered when she forsook fame in favor of the Lord. At the end of a long, fruitless search for a man, this courageous young woman found the truest love of all waiting right in front of her. To that love, Emily said yes.

I will be the first to admit I get caught up in the drama of The Bachelor & The Bachelorette on ABC. Forgive me...its my one vice. You know you have one too :) The hair-pulling, the cat fights (and that is just the male contestants). The horribly delicious delusion of the contestants is like the world's biggest train wreck...you just can't look away! Am I right?! Out of 20+ seasons and a success rate of less than 5%, I have to say, ABC should throw the towel in on this franchise, but alas both shows have already been renewed through the end of 2017. In addition to setting unrealistic expectations about the possibility of finding "love, true love" (quick...name that movie!) in less time than it takes to renew your driver's license, it also sets a precedent that if things get rough once you're no longer blinded by the camera lights, tipsy from the champagne and bleeding from the rose thorns, you can pack your bags and head on to the next reality television show. C'mon...you know I am right! And what is up with all the same contestants moving from show to show to show!? Its like high school marching band...a dating pool made up of the same people, just a different show/channel. First of all, GROSS! Who wants to kiss someone that their friend has just kissed?! Second of all, take your blinders off people and realize there is a reason these people keep switching partners like they switch their undies. If true love is the story they are trying to tell, they are failing...MISERABLY!

Along comes Emily Maynard. Smashing success on The Bachelor (spoiler alert: she got the rose and...they broke up before it even aired. Big surprise, right?!) and The Bachelorette (another spoiler alert: she gave her final rose and...they broke up 6 weeks after the finale. That came out of no where, right?). Her journey is detailed in her new book, I Said Yes. I am always mildly intrigued when a "reality star" writes a book. (We wouldn't want to waste that 5 minutes of fame now would we?) I always read in hopes to see the truth behind all the smoke and mirrors; for them to actually prove they aren't as crazy as I think they are. (Side note: 99.999999% of the time they are even crazier). With Emily, I wanted to understand her story through the lens of a single mother. How did she handle all the chaos and still remain true in the eyes of her young daughter? When I read that she met her next victim husband at church, I wanted to see if she was a real Christian or a "reality Christian" - one who uses faith/God to further launch their acting/music/modeling/whatever career.

I had high expectations for this book! It was finally her opportunity to demonstrate that the teasers and pre-order hype were legit. The bulk of the book is essentially a more in-depth telling of her opening package for both reality shows. Where was the faith part?! Aha, there it is in the last chapter. I am glad that she found Christ and that her family of 4...soon to be 5, is complete because of her faith and prayer life. But here's the thing, if the overall message of the book is a "story or heartbreak, redemption and true love, why isn't there more focus on how she came to find her faith and trust the Lord with her love life? Why did the ending come across as more of a last ditch effort to meet a deadline and less like a genuine description of trusting the Lord and wanting to share that message with her legions of fans. I read the book hoping it was less about her rise to fame and more about her relationship with Christ. And it was there, but the message missed its mark and, unfortunately, felt like an afterthought.

This is Emily's story of how her journey from the tragedy of her finance's death, being on the bachelor then becoming the bachelorette teaches her about her faith. You don't need to be a fan or have watched the show to be able to understand her story, she does a great job explaining her story and what she has gone through. Emily tells us of how she had to overcome the heartache and pain of not being able to find love in her life. Once she realizes that GOD is in control and when she stops and gets into his word, life happens the way GOD wants it to.

I would recommend this to those that watch the Bachelor or Bachelorette as she gives new perspective of what goes on behind the scenes. If you are not a fan or never watched the show you will still enjoy this book as it relates to how love is more then a marriage, it is all about your faith and your relationship with GOD.

I never watched Emily Maynard's season, but I spotted her book, I Said Yes, recently and picked it up to review. I knew nothing about her story going in, but to give you a quick recap, she lost her fianc in a plane crash when she was 18, and then found out that she was pregnant. After a few years of being a single mom, she was nominated to be on the Bachelor, and later become the Bachelorette (spoiler alert: her Bachelor relationships didn't work out - what did I tell you about the track record?).

What interested me most about this book was the fact that Emily is a Christian, and I wondered how being on the show fit in with her faith in Jesus. This book is not just a story of how Emily Maynard eventually finds love, but ultimately it's a story of her Christian testimony. Though I was skeptical going in, it was refreshing to read how she eventually comes to find a relationship with Jesus and live out her faith.

I appreciated that Emily struck such a nice balance between describing her daughter as a wonderful blessing and also not condoning sex outside of marriage. Her relationship with her daughter is such a sweet part of her story, and it was so interesting to me to see how being a single mother fit into being on the Bachelor.

If you watched Emily's season, some of the story may be redundant. Originally I thought it might be hard to get interested in the book since I hadn't seen her season, but I think I enjoyed it more not knowing how her stints on the show were going to play out. But whether you have seen her season or not, reading about the "behind the scenes" of the show makes this book worthwhile. The show is even more scripted than I originally knew. I think what was most shocking to me is hearing about how they just pack up and leave after the final rose is handed out and leave this new couple totally on their own. Come on, Bachelor producers, some follow-up might increase your success stories!

If you have watched the show at all, I think you would find this book interesting. I recommend it to fellow Bachelor fans, even if you are a reluctant fan like me.

Note: I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for a review. This is my honest opinion.

Bachelor Nation will be thrilled to have this book by Emily. Emily is definitely a fan favorite and sharing her story so openly and honestly will touch people's hearts. Her sweet personality comes through her words and she shares her journey from struggling with anxiety through the loss of her beloved fiance to Bachelor/Bachelorette. It was interesting to read more about the show of the Bachelor but also Emily's personal story. Much of her own story wasn't told on camera. Fans will love all the details she shares and it's a very easy read. Great job, Emily!

Yes, this book was written by the former Bachelor and Bachelorette star. The Bachelor franchise (in the last few years) has become my guilty pleasure, except for Juan Pablo's season - that man seemed too full of himself. Emily's appearance on the franchise was before I started tuning in, so I didn't get to see any of her air time. Even so, this book was a goldmine of awesome behind the scenes information! I loved hearing how she perceived the experience...from stepping out of the limo to meet Brad on the first night to having to fight through accidentally taking a sleeping pill before a rose ceremony as the Bachelorette to hearing how her thoughts were reeling after Jef's proposal to how the show's production team seemed to shut down almost immediately after the proposal to what it was like to be in a relationship while having to wait for her seasons to air. This book was more than just Bachelor gossip, it was about Emily's life and description of how God was writing her love story. I give it a solid A.
