"The Sacred Slow: A Holy Departure from Fast Faith" by Alicia Britt Chole is a formatted devotion of types book. Each section is called a Movement. There are twelve. Each movement is divided into parts and includes a guided response. The book is designed to be taken slowly and with depth. It is rather complicated. It is not for everybody. I had a hard time with the book, it seemed to be above my understanding most of the time. It is definitely an intellectual and penetrating book. I would suggest using this in a small group setting with a pastor or counselor guiding the readers. Life is hectic. It's hard to squeeze in our faith, particularly practicing what one believes. We want everything to be as quick as Google. But Alicia Britt Chole has a different message about faith in "The Sacred Slow." Inside the covers of this devotional one will discover an intimacy with God, how to intentionally feed the soul, and grow one's faith and relationship with God. Each of the 52 chapters are broken down into readings with reflective questions or as Chole calls it "guided responses." Together, moving at one's own pace, the exercises move one to intentionally experience God and his love. This is not a book to breeze through if one wants to get the most out of it. It is truly a journey of self-discovery. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Handlebar Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt Thank you to Alicia Britt Chloe and her publisher for sending me a copy of "The Sacred Slow" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

The Sacred Slow by Alicia Britt Chloe is a really cool devotional/study book! This book is meant to be savored, not quickly power-read! This is a very deliberate and methodical read that is designed to be chewed on for maximum benefit to your relationship with God. This book is so much more than a read. It is also filled with challenges to put what youre learning into practice.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life and especially now during the holidays, Ive chosen to take one experience every week so I can really contemplate what Alicia is presenting. This was easy to wrap my mind around since the book contains 52 experiences one for each week of the year. When I go on vacation in another week, I believe I will keep this pace because Ive enjoyed taking my time with this.

So often I find I am not applying Gods truth to my life because Im doing so much: teaching Sunday school, leading a BSF discussion group, participating in choir and praise team, working full time and caring for a husband and a few dogs. What Ive discovered through reading this book at a relaxed pace is that God can accomplish much through me when I put Him first.
