rmoss5 Stars Out Of 5Awesome BookOctober 29, 2019rmossQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"What's hard isn't following Jesus. What's hard is following myself, doing my life my way; therein lies the path to exhaustion. With Jesus there's still a yoke, a weight to life, but it's an easy yoke, and we never carry it alone."
Quote from The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer
We live in a time where we see people going through life in a hurry. In a hurry to get a job promotion. In a hurry to get the latest technology. In a hurry to binge watch the latest Netflix show or get the newest, most stylist clothes. What if you don't have to live life in a hurry? What if living a simple, minimalist life is truly better for you? John Mark Comer invites you to look at the deeper meaning of living a life of slowing down. He shares four practices that have helped him live a simple life and shares how they can help us as well.
1) Silence and Solitude
2) Sabbath
3)Simplicity
4)Slowing
I received a complimentary e-copy from Netgalley for a review. All opinions are my own. -
AB5 Stars Out Of 5A "quick" read about slowing downJanuary 23, 2020ABQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book seems to be targeted to the generation of 40-year olds and younger and I am old enough to be the author's mother. The practical truths, however, leave one mulling over ideas presented for extended periods of time. I find myself intentionally slowing down in traffic, waiting in the longer lines in stores, etc. The Biblical truths of not hurrying make this a timely book and I have been recommending it to friends and family of all ages.

Eric the Cleric5 Stars Out Of 5One of the most impactful books I've ever read.August 10, 2023Eric the ClericQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I first read this book a little over a year ago. I have read it 4 more times since. I will keep reading it for many years. It speaks directly to what I think is the biggest problem in my life, and the biggest problem in the modern world. Not only does it diagnosis the problem, but it gives dozens if not hundreds of small ways to start working against it. I want my life to be full of the joy and peace of Jesus. And this book is helping guide me to doing just that. I've got a long way to go, but it is already helping me experience Jesus' joy and peace, and be free of mindless fruitless hurry that has dominated my heart and mind for a long time.
Added bonus, John Mark Comer has clearly done his research. He quotes many Christian saints through the centuries, but first and foremost relies on the words of Jesus. -
I am JR5 Stars Out Of 5Life changingDecember 21, 2022I am JRQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Easily the most powerful and exciting book I've read in years. I'd give it 10 starts if I could.
As a Christian professional workaholic, this was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. My world stopped as I read this book, causing me to re-evaluate how I'm doing life. The author put into words what I was feeling but couldn't articulate.
If you're ready to do life differently, do yourself a favour and read this book. I've put in a bulk order to share with my family, friends and colleagues.
Thank you John for this timely gift of a second chance at doing life differently. -
