ACS Book FinderAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful & would make great giftOctober 1, 2013ACS Book FinderAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The book I Am Ruth; A Story of Loss, Love, & Redemption is written by Brenda Duff and the photography is by Kenneth Berg. It is the book of Ruth from the Bible, only told through pictures as well as written word.
The book itself is beautifully illustrated. The photographs bring the book to life, especially they are pictures of Israel and its landscapes. Reading the story, while being able to view the pictures, made the story of Ruth even that more memorable and special to me. Ruth happens to be my favorite book in the Bible because it shows a clear picture of our redemption through Jesus Christ and his death, burial and resurrection.
I did struggle at first with the style of the writing, in that the writer jumped back and forth between the story of Ruth and Naomi and the story of Abraham. It became easier to read the further I got into the story and helped lay the foundation for the actions of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz. I do believe that this would be a good companion book to read along with the actual scripture from Ruth.
I Am Ruth" is wonderful book and would make a great gift. I would leave this book out on my coffee table because of its beauty on the cover and then the awesome photographs inside. It is a beautiful book with an even more beautiful story of Loss, Love & ultimate Redemption. (rev. P.Howard)

I believe this book will be a nice addition to any home or church library.
The first think that is noticeable about this book are the stunning pictures! Kenneth Berg did an absolutely fantastic job with the photography for the book. All of the pictures were taken taken in close proximity to the actual sites where the scenes from the eighth book of the Bible actually took place. And, wow, do these photos bring the scenes to life!
Of course, the value of a book is more than just pictures, and this one has a lot of value in its word content. Its author, Brenda Duff, takes the book of Ruth from a historically accurate point of view. I like how she takes this and ties it in with other historical events from the Old Testament, going backwards to Abraham and then forward to Jesus Christ.
The Bible is not just a book of stories. It is history. God's history. God had a plan for Ruth, and it was already set in motion. Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz were all real people. Moab and Bethlehem, Judah were all real places. This book, with its text and photos is a fresh reminder of this.
Ruth is a love story for the ages. It is a true story of loss, love, and redemption.

It is the book of Ruth from the Bible, illustrated and expanded.
When I first read about this book I wasn't too excited. I thought it was just a book with photos of people re-enacting the scenes from the book of Ruth from the Bible. Well, it IS that, partially, but even more, it is filled with explanations and expansions of information relevant to the book of Ruth.
Information such as how Lot and Abraham's story relates to that of Ruth and Naomi. Stories of other Biblical characters "Returning Home." Explanations of some of the traditions which are a part of the book of Ruth (Boaz's sandal, for one!)
All in all, I think this book was a nice help to read alongside the book of Ruth. Actually, the text of the book of Ruth is included in this book.
I would recommend this book as a gift or a study aid, or even as a homeschool book to use while studying the book of Ruth. My teenage daughter actually picked up this book and read it before me and really enjoyed it, so it appears that its appeal is pretty broad.
You can see more info about this book, including a video trailer here.
I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher for the purpose of this review. I was not required to write a positive review.
tickmenotKansas CityGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful! "I am Ruth" Photography by Kenneth BerSeptember 4, 2013tickmenotKansas CityGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a beautiful picture book containing the Biblical story of Ruth. The pictures are all taken in Israel, are in full color, and provide the reader with lovely images of the Holy Land's country side. Traditional clothing from the time of Ruth is worn in all the pictures containing people, and they are shown portraying different events in Ruth's story.
This volume contains the complete Book of Ruth in the New King James Version, as well as, the story of Ruth in narrative form. Having the combination of the Biblical version, the narrative form and all the awesome pictures makes Ruth's story have even greater depth. Reading the Book of Ruth in the Bible has always been inspiring, however, with this book, the story really comes alive before the reader's eyes.
As Naomi makes the decision to return to Israel after the devastating deaths of her husband and two sons, the pictures bring home what a difficult journey she had to make to get back to Bethlehem. The reader can visualize Ruth as she says these famous words to Naomi:
"Entreat me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.
Where you die, I will die,
And there will I be buried.
The Lord do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts you and me."
(Ruth 1:16-17 New King James Version)
The pictures also emphasize how very poor Naomi and Ruth were when they came back to Israel, and what hard work it would have been to get the little bit of grain leftover in the fields. With the photographs, it is very easy to imagine the joy Naomi, Boaz and Ruth had when they were married, and later when their son, Obed, is born.
"I am Ruth," is well written, and a visual treat to the eyes. Unfolding in this volume is the beautiful story of Naomi and Ruth being redeemed by Boaz, their kinsman redeemer. In the end, all of their needs have been met, plus more. Ruth becomes part of the lineage of Jesus, and the great-grandmother of King David. Ruth's story parallels that of Jesus who will become our own kinsman redeemer if we allow him, and gain all the blessings of a Christ follower, including eternal life.
This is a "coffee table book." It is a hardcover volume made with high quality paper, and is over-sized. But this is definitely a book to pick up and read; please don't leave it sitting unread as a coffee table decoration. I have always loved the book of Ruth, and so really enjoyed the story in this format. I can't emphasize enough what a lovely book this is, and how well done it is. "I am Ruth" gets five stars and my recommendation.
The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Master Books, a division of New Leaf Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment, and I have given an honest opinion.
LynnaeAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful!August 29, 2013LynnaeAge: 35-44Gender: femaleThis book is simply stunning! The photography really brings the book of Ruth to life, and the text provides really great background information. Both the photos and the text make the book of Ruth more understandable and provide the reader with a deep connection to the Biblical person Ruth.
Just flipping through the pages of I am Ruth gives the reader a good idea of how treacherous the desert must have been, as Naomi and Ruth made their way back to Bethlehem. The background information on the concept of Kinsman-Redeemer is explained, so the reader can fully appreciate what Boaz did for Ruth. I really love that the text of Ruth is included in this book, so the reader can read straight from scripture, while appreciating all the background information.
I am Ruth is the kind of book I will keep on my coffee table to flip through on a rainy day with a hot cup of coffee. Whether read in one sitting or taken in bit by bit, this book is a great supplement to the book of Ruth.
*I received a copy of I am Ruth from Master Books in exchange for my honest review.
