I put on soft Christian music that I like and just relax and focus on God and coloring. The new Drawn In Bible Studies are created to combine coloring and Bible study either alone or in a group setting.
This Drawn In Study of Ruth includes 4 sessions, and introduction, and a section detailing How to Lead a Drawn In Bible Study. This Bible study is written by Eugene Peterson and include portions of The Message Bible along with the study, coloring pages, and questions. I worked on the study alone, but I could see where this would be beneficial to do in a group setting as well. I thought the questions reflecting on Ruth made me think and do some soul searching. It would be very helpful to have the support of other people and reflect on this story for mutual encouragement, praying for one another in the study and building relationships as you share your stories.
For coloring purposes, the Drawn In Bible Study of Ruth is made up of heavy stock paper pages. I only used colored pencils on my book but if you test a corner, this book may be able to handle fine point markers or gel pens. The pictures do have smaller coloring spaces so something with a fine point would be best for your coloring tool.
Besides Ruth, Drawn In Bible Studies include Esther (Finding yourself in Times of Trouble) and Mary (Seeing God through the eyes of a Mother). If you enjoy coloring, these Bible studies may be just what you need to help quiet your mind and to help you focus on Scripture. I know I hope to get all three. All three titles release on June 20 and are available for pre-order from any retailer selling books.
I received the Drawn In study of Ruth from Tyndale House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for the Bible study.
SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Delve Deeper into Ruth -- with Coloring!May 25, 2017SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Eugene H. Peterson, best known for his Bible translation "The Message," brings to us an exciting new Bible study series "Drawn in," a coloring Bible study series currently featuring Ruth, Esther and Mary.
In "Ruth: Discovering Your Place in God's Story," Peterson creates a Bible study featuring Ruth, a simple woman who eventually becomes the great-grandmother of the great king David, as well as an ancestor of Christ.
Peterson takes us through the "small story of two widows and a farmer in their out-of-the-way village." Each of the four sessions begins with some introductory questions to ask yourself, tying into that session's lessons on Ruth, followed by a number of Scripture passages and related questions, helping you delve deeper into Ruth's story. Each session also includes several full one- and two-page images to color, as well as several small images throughout the pages.
Ruth is an important, yet unusual, historical and biblical lesson to study because, as Peterson points out, "Ancient literature focused on men, especially powerful men, so it's extraordinary to get a tale from the point of view of two lower-class women."
The story of a widowed, impoverished and obscure alien, Ruth teaches us so many wonderful lessons -- loyalty, redemption, love, faithfulness, and the fact that every last one of us counts, and what we do counts. This study encourages us to not only learn about God, but to experience Him even more deeply and personally than ever before.
"Ruth" can be done as either an individual or in a group setting. During the study, Peterson encourages the reader to not only read the biblical text, but to also meditate, pray and live the text -- what he calls "spiritual reading."
The "Drawn in" study series helps you battle life's busyness and study God's word with help -- coloring, which encourages creative thinking; the version of Scripture used -- Peterson's "The Message" is written in easier-to-understand contemporary language; the questions, which help the reader connect their lives to those lives featured in the Bible reading; the commentary, which offers clarifications and insights into the passage; and leader's notes, which can help both a single study user or a group leader.
I look forward to checking out the other two books in the series and I hope Peterson will include many more of the Bible's characters in future studies!
Five stars out of five.
