What on earth are we missing? Philip Yancey believes we are missing the supernatural hidden in everyday life. In Rumors of Another World, Yancey investigates the natural world and discovers the supernatural hiding in plain view. He grapples with why God made the world and what our role truly is, and seeks to answer the question, How do I live in the natural world while expressing the values of the supernatural? Philip writes, I have come to understand faith as the highest form of integrated encounter. Faith puts together, assembles, re-orders, accepting the entire world as Gods handiwork. We live among clues, like rescuers sifting through pieces of stained glass shattered by a bomb, and only with a blueprint or some memory of original design can we begin to connect the shards, to assemble them into a pattern that makes sense of our world. Nature and supernature are not two separate worlds, but different expressions of the same reality. To encounter the world as a whole, we need a more supernatural awareness of the natural world. Yancey invites readers to join him on a journey of discovery. He challenges us to tune into rumors of another world, and connect the seen with the unseen. He promises that the grace-filled result will be a life of beauty, purpose, freedom, and faith.

I gave them all away even my last copy and now can't purchase them anywhere in that form. Really disappointed. A brilliant little book to read and give away.

Janine Garza2 Stars Out Of 5March 13, 2010Janine GarzaI expected much more insite from this book, but most of what is stated is the obvious...nature, cosmos, human parts and mechanics. I'm only half way through it, and will endure the rest in hopes of something enlightening.
Jim Parsons5 Stars Out Of 5June 2, 2008Jim ParsonsThis is the best Yancey book I have read. It is filled with insights from other sources; and, as an author, it is easy to see underneath the text to understand how Yancey organizes his writing through an extensive note-taking system. Although I understand the critical reviewer's note that it was difficult to see a singular unifying thread that would explain what this book was about, I believed it is the metaphor of rumors that drives the writing -- thus, the book is more a collection of different thoughts/hints/rumors than it is a resolution of a single strand of thinking.
Jim Parsons5 Stars Out Of 5April 23, 2008Jim ParsonsI believe this is Philip Yanceys best book - at least in those I have read. The book is filled with stories, examples, and insights, and the content is really quite strong. As an academic writer myself, the book represents a lesson on how to write a book, and it is not difficult to see how Yancey collected his notes and insights over the years to organize the content. I found the book filled with small, wonderful insights and I have carefully taken notes throughout the book to add to my own background and work. I recommend the book and have, in fact, purchased multiple copies for gifts to friends. The book gainfully rewards a serious read.
