Apparently the first two of these things are in the "End User Agreement" but you are not given the chance to read that until AFTER you have bought and paid for the product. And once you open it you cannot return it. (so maybe that's another complaint? Sneaking in fine print AFTER it's bought..)
So here goes:
First off, you can only set up accounts for 5 people at a time. This is an issue for my family of 6. It means one person cannot do the lessons at all until someone else has completed the entire year long course. Since it can only be installed on one computer, we have the further issue of it being very time time consuming. I'm not thrilled at all that 5/6 of my family can learn while one is left out. =( In my opinion NOT learning together as a family will defeat the purpose. How will my children retain the language if they have no one to speak it too? And do I really want my kids to know a language I don't??
Second issue, it is illegal to sell (or give apparently) this program to anyone else once you have bought it. If you do, the new person will not be able to activate it.
I'm not sure if knowing these two things ahead of time would have been a deal breaker or not, but it would have been nice to know and consider. I feel like they were sneaky with putting in fine print, AFTER the product was bought, instead of being straight up and honest on the details BEFORE taking my money. Because of this we will not buy any more Rosetta Stone. I will write a review of the effectiveness of the program at a later date.
The third and final issue (as of now) is the customer service. WOW it was a pain to get a hold of anyone. We wouldn't have been able to at all had my husband not found the number in our paperwork. It was nowhere to be found on the site. When I finally did get a hold of someone to ask about the above issues I was basically told, "Oh well, you've already paid for it and opened it." AND since it can only be on one computer, if anything happens to that computer we lose the program, and our money. They will tell you you can call in for a "deactivation code" and then a new "activation code" but after speaking with the rep, I somehow doubt it will be that easy.
