Colleen Coble has Book 2 of her Hope Beach Series available now for readers. Rosemary Cottage takes place near the Outer Banks, NC and centers around Amy Lange a mid-wife who has come back to Hope Beach to investigate her brother's death. Curtis Ireland is an officer with the Coast Guard who has just lost his sister. He has been left to raise his niece Raine. When Curtis and Amy learn that the two deaths are possibly connected, they begin to piece the clues together to find out the truth. Hope Beach used to be a safe place for Amy, but now it seems like everyone has a secret. Amy has never had to lock her doors, but when a car bomb is found on Curtis's car and evidence shows that someone has been in her home, she doesn't know who to trust. And could Raine really be her niece? Amy thought she knew her brother well, but she is discovering even her brother had secrets.
Although I had read other books by Colleen Coble, including Book 1 in this series, I didn't really care for this one. The writing seemed choppy and the story line didn't really flow for me. I didn't think it had enough of a Christian background to it either. I liked the mid-wife parts, but there were almost too many characters that it was hard for me to keep them straight as to who was who, especially at the beginning. Some of the characters from Book 1 of the series were in this story which was okay, but it really wasn't a story I would ever read again. Thomas Nelson publishers were kind enough to send me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rosemary Cottage is the second novel in the Hope Beach series by Colleen Coble. You are introduced to Amy Lange, who has returned to the island, hoping to discover some clues in her brother, Ben's death. She can't accept that a surfing accident alone was the cause. She has received an e-mail that brought out all kinds of questions in her mind.
Amy soon finds out that her brother had led a life she knew nothing about, including a dead girlfriend and a child left behind. Curtis, a coast guard officer, has been caring for Raine ever since his sister, Gina's death. He has been hesitant to inform Ben's family about Raine's existence. But with Amy's return to the island, he knew his secret would need to be revealed. When Amy finally meets her niece, she is instantly drawn in. Amy is content for Curtis to retain custody; however, when her parents learn the truth, they immediately want custody of the child.
After testing shows that Ben is not Raine's father, more secrets are revealed about both Ben's and Gina's deaths. Amy and Curtis start working together to find the truth. Hold on for the shocking conclusion to Rosemary Cottage!
I have enjoyed all of Colleen Coble's books and this one is no exception. I could not read it fast enough! It is a wonderful mixture of romance, suspense and family drama. Can't wait for the next book!!
Set on Hope Beach, a fictional location along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I was drawn back into the setting with the characters I came to enjoy in Tidewater Inn. This book is a multi-layered mystery with a wonderful blend of romance. Amy Lange has returned to Rosemary Cottage to mourn the death of her brother. Curtis Ireland still isn't over the death of his sister. The two connect over Curtis' niece Raine. They determine to get to the bottom of what happened and twists keep pitting them against each other even as they are drawn together.
This book kept me guessing even as I anticipated some of the twists. My daughter was absolutely convinced I could never anticipate everything that would happen. She was right -- though I did unwind more of it than she did! I love a book that keeps me guessing. I enjoy books with a satisfying romance. Put the two together, and I am a very happy reader. This book is perfect for those who love romantic mysteries.
