Publisher Description

Rooted in Jesus Christ offers a Christian proposal for radical social transformation, as well as extending an invitation to mystical, political, and ecclesial engagement. Daniel Izuzquiza proposes a vibrant interdisciplinary theology from the unique perspective of the “least of these” — the poor.

This proposal is radical in three ways: (1) It tackles the political realm, providing an alternative to the global capitalist system currently causing so much injustice and death. (2) It takes on the ecclesial realm, overcoming the divisions that tear the Church apart. (3) It argues for a shift in the theological, calling Christians back to the root of our faith to be nourished once again by being united to Jesus Christ.

Izuzquiza analyzes the language of theology, the role of social sciences, the transformation of culture, and the Church’s approach to politics. He also dialogues with some of the main theological proposals of the late twentieth century, from Latin American liberation theology to European political theology. Next he offers a more systematic development of the radical ecclesiology, analyzing the sources of the proposal as alternative Christian practices. The result is a groundbreaking call to action and change for the entire Church.
