This 'bride of convenience' story was reversed. The woman asked the man to marry! Annie Gephart finds herself widowed with two children and a ranch she can no longer take care of. Handsome Marshal Jacob Hendrix longs for a ranch of his own so he can quit being a marshal in name only. When Annie approaches Jacob about marrying, in name only, he accepts thinking he will finally have the ranch he has always dreamed about. Well things may not turn out the way either expected and there are challenges around every corner. Most of the characters were likable except Celia Annies daughter. She was incorrigible and spoiled but her adorable little brother, Spencer, made up for it! Author Melissa Jagears is a new author for me. I read Book Two in the Frontier Vows series before I read Book One. Each is stand alone. It is not necessary to read them in order. This is an enjoyable and inspirational series and I am looking forward to Book Three!

What a great book. I loved watching Jacob and Annie's relationship grow. This book has some twists and turns I didn't see coming. I loved the way the Marshall handled the situations and his godly character. This had a great Christian theme running through out. I can't wait to read more from this author.

A marriage of convenience story with heart and grit! Love the Wyoming setting -- haven't read many stories that take place in this state...in fact, this might be the first one! Jagears works her time-traveling magic with all her excellent historical details. From ranch life to a small town steeped in mystery and some of the unusual duties of the Marshal. And, of course, the harsh realities of a woman's life in this rugged man's world.

As far as the hero goes -- Jacob definitely earned a spot on the swoonworthy podium! Because, once committed, this man pursues not just Annie, but her children as well. Prepare for curled toes and smelling salt moments! And he's a man of faith; deliberate in the way he pursues the Lord's will in his life. Gotta love a hero with that kind of singular focus.

Annie is beleaguered and overwhelmed and still reeling from the violent death of her husband and everything that has transpired since then. My heart hurt and my body ached for her. Vulnerable and wary, she has a lot to figure out before their marriage of convenience has a chance of growing into something more meaningful. Loved the way the romance slowly builds in fits and starts. Had me on tenterhooks the whole read.

But then there's all the sinister things going on in town and somehow, the Marshal's new family is caught up in the middle of it. Plot twists led to some unexpected revelations and I like that not absolutely everything was tied up in a neat little bow. Not that there isn't a happily ever after -- there is, but it's a realistic one. Which kinda makes it all the sweeter somehow.

Annie needs to keep the ranch in the family. But after her husband passed away, she's been struggling to manage. Her son and daughter are helping, but they are just kids. She needs to keep the ranch to pass on to her children, but she's also tied to the ranch because of the little graveyard that holds her babies and late husband. She can't lose that connection with them. So she proposes a crazy idea to the local sheriff, Jacob. Marry her for her land. Jacob is torn. He plans to buy a farm or ranch, but all of the good ones are gone. But marry a woman he doesn't know just for her land?

This isn't just a sweet romance that's over in a couple of hours. It has depth, suspense, drama, and a love story that goes beyond just the two main characters. The author did a great job of setting up the plot so the reader was engaged and the characters had depth. I think my favorite character was actually one of the secondary characters, so I look forward to hopefully seeing her in another book. If you enjoy historical fiction that has sustenance and makes you think, then you'll love this book.

In 1884 a recent widow with children and a ranch she couldn't run by herself had few options. Annie Gephart decides their only hope is for her to remarry. The handsome marshal, Jacob Hendrix, seems the most likely of the bachelors she knows. He is not adverse to the idea since he's always wanted to ranch. Jacob and Annie face many obstacles, including cattle rustlers, dishonest politicians, a rebellious teenage daughter, and Annie's grief. Though they sometimes react in less than ideal ways, their faith carries them through the difficulties. I liked that Jacob didn't marry Annie solely for her ranch. It didn't take long for him to love her and her children, Celia and Spencer, though he had to be very patient waiting for Annie to show her love for him. He showed Godly character which made him a true hero. Annie and Jacob were both likable, easy to relate to characters. With a cover perfect for the story, ROMANCING THE BRIDE is a very entertaining marriage of convenience story that I enjoyed. Since it is the first of a new series, I will be looking forward to the next books by Melissa Jagears.
