Suzanne Rhodes, a longtime poet and teacher, offers The Roar on the Other Side as an introductory guide for students (junior high and up). Clear and imaginative, this book makes poetry approachable. Focusing on the importance of sight and the necessity of practice, Rhodes easily communicates the joy of words to her readers and helps them see how good poetry binds all seemingly-contradictory things together. Students will emerge from this book with a good handle on the basics of writing poetry and a new appreciation for the awesome world wherein we live.

Lonnie Mcelroy5 Stars Out Of 5April 23, 2013Lonnie McelroyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is an excellent book. "It has the "theory" behind poetry writing and then it has exercises to complete. The chapters each teach a different trope and so much more. I used this with a group of jr. and sr. high school girls along with Matt Whitling's Grammar of Poetry. We had lots of fun and published an anthology at the end of it all. Helped us to produce a very nice collection of poems.
