Book Two in the Chicory Inn series continues the Whitman family saga with the emphasis on oldest daughter Corinne and her husband Jesse. You don't need to have read the first book in order to enjoy this one but it sure was fun to renew acquaintances with the whole extended family.

When I saw this title I immediately thought of Robert Frost's poem, The Road Not Taken. You know the part where it says two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference? Well, that so aptly applies to Corinne and Jesse's journey in Two Roads Home.

This is the incredibly complex love story of a married couple. Raney portrays the harried stress of day-to-day family life with exacting precision. But these two have to face much more than the typical stressors of our fast-paced world and that makes this an utterly compelling read. Their trust in each other is sorely tested. Emotional, funny, exasperating by turn, I didn't want to put this book down.

A rollercoaster of a read with plenty of emotional turmoil but Raney manages to wrap it all up with love and laughter and the renewing hope that comes from an abiding faith.

I have been reading Deborah Raney's books since A Vow to Cherish in 1996. I still have that copy of the book, too! Her writing never gets old, never feels out of date. Just plain good writing, if you ask me.

Two Roads Home is book two in the Chicory Inn series and features the life of Corrine, Audrey and Grant Whitman's daughter, and her husband, Jesse Pennington. Jesse travels a lot for work and his female co-worker, has developed an infatuation with him. The situation escalates and threatens to ruin their lives, even causing danger to their three daughters.

Jesse and Corinne live a good life in a great neighborhood, but circumstances quickly become such that they may have to change many things about that life. Maybe even live out a long and never thought could happen dream.

God always has a plan for His children. They don't always happen when we think they should and sometimes we don't even believe they ever will happen. This book shows us that even circumstances that look overwhelming and insurmountable can turn out for our good in the end if we will only trust God with them and not try to work things out for ourselves. Everything that looks bad is not always bad and everything that is good is not always best.

Deborah Raney is one of my all time favorite authors in the world! She always writes a fresh story, a novel rich and full of characters that the reader can identify with. I heard there are 3 more books in this series and I'm looking forward very much to them all!

*I was provided with a copy of this book by the publisher. I was not prompted to give a favorable review and my opinions are honest and my own.

I enjoy the real situations that Deborah Raney writes about. It is so easy to relate to her characters as they deal with various issues of life, marriage, parenting, work, and so much more. In this second book of the Chicory Inn series, we see the changes that have taken place in the lives of Landyn and Chase since the first book. However, the focus of this book is on Corinne, Jesse, and their three daughters. As in the first book in the series, the parents of Corinne and Landyn continue to play an important role in the lives of their adult children. Corinne and Jesse have some serious issues to deal with as they have maintained an upwardly mobile lifestyle to this point. The price of that lifestyle may be more than they are willing to pay. Too often, the real cost is messed up lives, broken marriages, kids with no spiritual moorings, and more failures in the body of Christ. On the spine of the book, it is labeled Womens Fiction. Frankly, I think there are lessons in the book for both women and men alike. I recommend this not just for the entertainment value but also for the lessons in walking a life of faith.

I think some of my favorite series have to be the ones that focus on family. In fact, some of my favorite television shows focus on family. I'm not certain why I enjoy it so much, except maybe it's because I feel like I get to know the characters so well and can easily imagine them as I read the books or watch the shows. Families are imperfect, so I like reading about the imperfect families... the ones who have flaws but continuously seek to become better.

That's exactly the reason why I like the Chicory Inn series. There's so much honesty, which makes it extremely easy to relate to. It reminds me that none of us have perfect marriages or families, despite what pictures say.

I think readers can relate easily to the marriage of Jesse and Corinne. Marriage is hard work and that's exactly what Jesse and Corinne realize. It's so easy to get swept away by the pressures of work and life in general that you don't have much time left to work on your marriage. In fact, it became so imperative that they focus on their marriage after a few events left them hanging on. Nothing like a wake-up call to realize all you've taken for granted.

I really like the cover of this book. It is so relaxing to look at. In fact, it got moved up on my reading list because I was drawn to the cover.

I am looking forward to reading book 3 in this series!

Spectacular! Two Roads Home: A Chicory Inn Novel (Book 2), By: Deborah Raney

This was such a spectacular book to read! I was captured from the very beginning. There are so many twists, turns, and unexpected things that happen throughout this book. Deborah Raney delivers some of her best writing works yet. She brought the characters to life for me in this wonderful story. A story of faith, love, devotion and acceptance. The trials of everyday life marriage and raising a family. Dealing

with unexpected things that seem to come from nowhere. This book is an excellent read I highly recommend this book! 5 stars!
