"River's Edge" book 3 in the Cape Refuge Series by Terri Blackstock,is a modern mystery in the Christian Fiction genre. Ben and Lisa are a well-to-do couple who have been battling infertility for 13 years. On the morning of Lisa's third try at IVF she turns up missing. A local psychic leads the police to the location of the body. Ben, who is in the middle of a heated mayoral election becomes the prime suspect. As the puzzle pieces come together, the picture gets wider and wider. The media turns the case into a national circus and one couple's trauma with infertility starts to hit home with another couple who is close to the story.

I have not read any of the other Cape Refuge books, and though a few past references are made to the other books, they are not necessary in order to understand "Edge." However, reading this novel makes we want to read the others. Blackstock consistently turns out a good series and is very skilled at intertwining mystery and faith. I would call it more of a Christian friendly novel rather than Christian Fiction. Blackstock steers clear of becoming preachy. Her characters tend to be Christian and she makes no apologies for that. And I never did figure out the killer until she told me. Highly recommend this book! I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review from www.booklookbloggers.com.

This might've been the first work of criminal fiction I've ever read... but it certainly makes me want to read more! Although I dove right into the middle of the 'Cape Refuge Series' by reading 'River's Edge' before it's predecessors, 'Cape Refuge' and 'Southern Storm', I didn't feel, at any time during the book, like I missed some important information or crucial data from the previous two books. It felt like its own story, with its own characters, plot, and strategy. 'River's Edge' has definitely piqued my interest in the 'Cape Refuge' series, as well as other books by New York Times' Bestselling Author Terri Blackstock, and I don't doubt that I will be reading another one of her books very soon!

Terri wastes no time forcing the reader to become emotionally involved in 'River's Edge'. Joyous news for Jonathan and Morgan Cleary suddenly plummets into a tragic and unbelievably heartbreaking report that leaves you forcing back a wave of tears. Seeking the help of a friend dealing with the same issue, Morgan attempts to contact Lisa Jackson... but soon finds that her friend met with a tragedy even worse than their own:

    Murder.

After discovering the strangulated body of Lisa Jackson strapped into the driver's seat of her vehicle many feet below the nearby river, Cape Refuge must waste no time in finding the killer before he disappears... or strikes again.

Terri Blackstock's 'River's Edge' is a roller-coaster, instantly rocketing its reader into the field of crime investigation and forensics. It's like playing a nice game of Clue. We already know the weapon used... now, we need to find the scene where the crime took place, and the criminal that committed the crime. As you dig deeper into 'River's Edge', you will begin to grow deeply suspicious of numerous suspects, and in fact will probably say to yourself, 'Yep, it was probably him--the man who murdered Lisa Jackson.' However, don't trust your instincts for a second, because as soon as you think you've got it figured out, another twist throws you for a loop.

I had a lot of fun with 'River's Edge'! It was a thrilling ride that I would like to relive very soon.

'River's Edge,' however, is a book best read by the mature teen and young adult. There are a few mature elements and subjects mentioned throughout the book which some may not consider suitable for the younger, including topics such as infertility, miscarriages, the problems associated with them, affairs, and the like. Nothing was mentioned that shouldn't have been mentioned, but for the purpose of understanding and apprehending these subjects, I would recommend this book for the more mature readers.

When preparing to open the front cover to begin to read, imagine yourself standing at the very brink of a crisp, sparkling river. You're staring down at the steep drop-off that will plunge you deep into the water. It will be a perilous ride, you know it, and the fight back to the surface will be long and arduous. Yet, you know without a doubt that the thrill will be worth it.

What are you waiting for? Dive deep into the waters of 'River's Edge'!

Terri Blackstock in her new book, Rivers Edge Book Three in the Cape Refuge series published by Zondervan gives us another adventure with Blair Owens and Police Chief Cade.

From the back cover: Was Lisa Jackson s disappearance related to politics, her husband s affair, or her long-term infertility?

Ben Jackson is going head to head with Jonathan Cleary in Cape Refuge s mayoral race and he s even expected to win when his wife Lisa turns up missing the day before the major debate. Suddenly the town is in turmoil as proof of an alleged affair surfaces, indicating that Ben Jackson might have had motive to kill his wife.

Meanwhile, newspaper owner Blair Owens has other suspicions and so does Police Chief Cade. Together they dig deeply into the mysterious disappearance that soon spirals into a web of confusion, dark secrets, and unsettling fraud.

Then the town s psychic reveals the location of Lisa s body at the bottom of the river. Even though Blair doesnt believe his paranormal gift is real, she can t imagine how he knew where the body was.

The small-town scandal quickly turns into a national media event. Is the murderer one of the obvious suspects . . . or someone they have no reason to doubt?

I have to confess Rivers Edge is my first introduction to Cape Refuge and its people. And what an introduction it is. Ms. Blackstock makes us hit the ground running and just does not let up with the suspense. Politics, infertility, missing wife and a psychic all this and more rolled up into one storyline. I think it takes a highly skilled author to pull of something like this and let me tell you I think Ms. Blackstock is one highly skilled author. Blair Owens and Police Chief Cade are well-defined characters that know what they are doing and whom we root for to figure out just what is going on. Once the action gets going Ms. Blackstock revs up the thriller quotient considerably which will have you reading and flipping pages as fast as you can. Dont start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it. I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book in the series.

Where do YOU go for YOUR information?

Cape Refuge is experiencing another storm, and it isnt caused by natural phenomena. As the political race for mayor between Ben Jackson and Pastor Jonathan Cleary heats up, more lives stand to be impacted by the outcome of the election. Police Chief Matthew Cade knows that if Jonathan doesnt prevail, his job is on the line as well.

When Ben Jacksons wife goes missing, the rumor mill begins. And when a local psychic leads authorities to the rivers edge directly to the location of Lisa Jacksons body its only adds fuel to the fire.

Amidst swirling accusations, suspicious minds, and chaotic lives spinning out of control there is still The Truth.

The Truth will set you free. Free indeed.

Exploring a variety of real-life issues, and written with Terri Blackstocks trademark for deep characters, realistic relationships, and suspense that holds you to the very last page, RIVERS EDGE will impact your life long after youve put the book down.

    SUMMARY:

Jonathon and Morgan are still reeling from the death of Morgans parents when a good friend, Lisa Jackson, is found dead. Lisas husband, Ben, who is a candidate in the mayoral race is a prime suspect; however, evidence and suspects continue to surface making an arrest nearly impossible. Foul play, scandal, politics, alleged affairs, a psychic, infertility and secrets all come into play

    A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:

With an intense murder plot as well as several subplots, Rivers Edge just keeps right on moving. Filled with drama, suspense, surprises and faith, I quickly read through this novel. Starting with book 3 in the series, I jumped into the middle but had no problems following the storylines and characters. (The few references to the preceding books did pique my interest enough though to want to read them now.) With some difficult subjects, Terri Blackstock was able to appropriately and sensitively handle and portray them in a careful and faith-filled manner. I also appreciated the location for this novelTybee Island (Savannahs beach); I absolutely love that island!

    RATING:

    4 (out of 5) pennies
