Series: Amish of Hart County
New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray brings us another compelling suspense in her Amish of Hart County series, this time featuring an undercover English DEA agent who will do anything to protect the Amish girl he loves.
Calvin Fisher left the Amish community at fourteen and never looked back. Only his brother’s illness can bring him back to Hart County. Now, as Calvin works to make amends, he meets Alice, a local nursery school teacher, and falls hard for her. But he has a secret that could threaten the happiness he’s finally found.
Alice shouldn’t like—or want—Calvin. He’s English, has a questionable past, and an even more questionable job. Still, she can’t help being intrigued. Though Calvin assures Alice that he’s worthy of her, she’s torn between surrendering to her growing feelings and steering clear of him.
When a sudden surge of criminal activity alarms the community and even targets Alice, Calvin fears that his double life has put everyone he loves at risk. As for Alice, she can’t help but wonder if the brave and honorable man she’s lost her heart to is far more dangerous than she could ever imagine.
Shelley Shepard Gray is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, a finalist for the American Christian Fiction Writers prestigious Carol Award, and a two-time HOLT Medallion winner. She lives in southern Ohio, where she writes full-time, bakes too much, and can often be found walking her dachshunds on her town’s bike trail.

Calvin has not been home in years, once he left the Amish community as a teenager. However, now that his brother is sick, he has returned home, but he encounters more than he anticipated as he falls for an Amish woman. However, Alice does not know Calvin's secrets, one main one that is unintentionally placing her and others at risk.
This book is very well-written and is a nice mix of suspense and romance. The characters are all ones that the reader can relate to and ones that are easy to empathize with. I have enjoyed every book in this series and this one is so good as well! I am looking forward to what Shelley writes next!

It kind of took me just a little while to get used to not imagining the beautiful country side and farm life. I soon though got used to the different setting and angle of Shelly Shepard Gray's story. I was drawn in to the danger, mystery and romance as His Risk. took us both into the Amish and the English world.
I could imagine in my mind what the danger that could happen to both Alice and her friend so many times. I even felt like I wanted to warn them. I'm glad that they both stood steadfast in their beliefs.
I was so proud of Calvin's brother for speaking up and letting Calvin know what he thought about his situation. Sometimes we chose to remain silent and then wish we had been bolder when things get out of control.
Even though this is a part of a series and you will want to know more about the characters when you finish, I feel you can read it alone.
This was a great, great read.
I was sent this book by Litfuse Publicity and was not required to give a positive review.

His Risk is built largely around danger and mystery with the return of a member of the community who left several years earlier and appears to bring danger with him when he returns out of concern for his brother's health.
The story is set in an Amish community, and most of the characters are obviously a part of that culture. An important thread throughout the story, though, takes place in the English world with plenty of suspense, danger, and questions. The story takes several turns, some particularly unexpected, keeping a good pace going in the interest level.
His Risk is part of a series, and there are a few references to characters and events from the earlier stories. However, the book works just fine as a stand-alone for anyone who has not read the others.
I recommend His Risk to fans of good Amish fiction. Thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group for providing a copy of the book. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.

The reading of His Risk flowed very quickly for me, however, I did not connect with these characters very well. I liked Alice and I even liked Calvin, a person I was not fond of in a previous book. I am just a bit skeptical about certain events in the story actually working out the way they did. I can't say more than that or I will give away major spoilers in the book. But, overall, I have liked the series and I am intrigued by the teaser for the next book that appeared in the back of this one. I am definitely looking forward to jumping back into this series for book five.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
