Society says youth is a time for carefree self-expression, but Trip Lee says God has called everyone to RISE from slumber, above low expectations, and to live for the risen King.
The world tells us that our early years are to be irresponsibly enjoyed rather than devoted to meaningful pursuits. Were told that responsibility and commitment are burdens to be put off as long as possible. And so, most of us spend our youth in a sad state of slumbersleeping in on life until were forced to get up. The problem is that life has already begun. Its happening right now. And God has called you to live it.
In this powerful book, Trip Lee argues its time to wake up and RISE, to live the way we were created to live. Young or old, weve been called to live for Him. Right now. Young believers face the same problems as older Christians, but they feel them in unique ways. RISE addresses those core problems in an engaging, profound, and life-changing way.
Don't just sit there: RISE!
Trip Lee is an author, teacher, hip-hop artist, pastor, and thought leader. I've just begun to explore the world of hip-hop Christian artists, I think I always assumed that they were not as good as secular rappers. But, as I've begun to listen more and more, the music is not only entertaining but rich with biblical truth and doctrine.
As I've read Trip Lee's new book, Rise, I've learned that he loves music but he loves The Lord more. I've learned that despite his youth, he longs to impact the world for Christ. Rise is one of the ways he's hoping to do just that.
In a conversational tone, he shares of his conversion to Christ at a young age )he's in his late twenties now). As he writes, he brings in the truth of scripture to validate his points, reminding the reader that all of creation, including his readers and all of mankind, were created to praise & bring glory to God and to be a part of the Lord's grand story.
And then, he tackled topics that need to be addressed as you grow in faith, from the gift of time, purity, secular music, marrying young and outside your ethnic group to church membership and the importance of serving in the body. He even touches on the grey areas of life not addressed directly in scripture. It was refreshing to read his honesty in sharing that God is definitely worthy to pursue and live for but the struggle to do so is none the less difficult.
I enjoyed this book a great deal and hope to have my own children read it in hopes they will be encouraged to, rise!

His style is unique and his lyrics are ones I go back to again and again. When I opened up his book, I didn't know what to expect. It turns out, we can expect a lot!
Overall, this book is full of excellent theology. Everyone will be challenged to live in submission to God and become more like their Savior, Jesus Christ. This is a book for Christians and for those who aren't quite ready to be counted as one just yet. This is a book that will help readers take stock of their lives in a way that will have them fully aware of where changes need to be made.
I read the book about three chapters at a time in exactly one week. By chapter the end of chapter 6, I was telling all my friends about it because I was super excited about getting Trip's wisdom into their hands. Most of my friends don't listen to rap, but nearly all of them are readers...They could finally see what God has trusted him with!
There was a certain point that things got a little weak in the last half of the book. Because I've heard countless albums, I think I know where Trip is coming from, but some of the implications of what he said go places that I don't think he intended. Chapter 12 and Chapter 14 were the two chapters that I had the toughest time agreeing with wholeheartedly. In the wrong hands, I think these chapters could lead people (especially, young people) to compromise. With careful discernment - which happens to be where I think Trip is coming from - these chapters on music and living as a Christian in a culture that is anti-Christian are no danger at all.
So...Grab a copy, read it with other saints, and get ready to answer God's call to rise up and be His people.
*I was provided a review copy of this book. All thoughts are my own honest opinion.
