Publisher's Description

Many in America and indeed around the world attend church to learn about God, to learn about ourselves and to connect with God and others. Along with that is a general belief that the church will be spiritually safe. After all, the best source of knowledge about God comes from His self-revelation which is contained in His inspired, inerrant word, the Bible. Many things can be confusing when trying to figure out the Bible on your own. Pastors and church leaders are looked to and relied on to carefully teach and guide the church family. They are trusted to keep false teaching outside the doors, preventing it from springing up within the church. Unfortunately, false teaching operates on a spiritual level like a virus does on a physical level. A pastor, elder or someone they trust may be introduced to new idea, spiritual tool or concept from what is believed to be a reliable source. It may be embraced as a path to a better understanding of God and self. Perhaps it offers a way to greater spiritual growth and perhaps numerical growth for the church. Even with the best intentions and efforts of spiritual leaders, they become spiritually infected and in turn, pass it on to the flock they care for. We would suggest that is what we have been witnessing with so many who have embraced Richard Rohr and the Enneagram he has delivered into the church through his disciples.

The claims for the Enneagram are simple. Supposedly it is an ancient tool used by some of the Early Church Fathers. It is claimed to be the face of God and each Enneagram number is an individual spiritual path to deeper spiritual understanding and fuller self-awareness. But what if this is one of the largest deceptions we have seen perpetrated on the church in a very long time?

What was your motivation behind this project?  We are engaged in addressing and responding to false beliefs and claims about God outside the church on a daily basis. False teaching also rises inside the church and the Lord Jesus was concerned about that (Matthew 7:15-23) and Paul charged the Ephesian elders to prevent false teachers from entering as well as those which would rise up from within (Acts 20:28-31). Our motive was two fold. First, it is a theme throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, the Lord address and is touched on in nearly every New Testament book. Second, we had to answer a question. If we don't have the integrity to address false teaching invading the church don't we give up the right to address false beliefs and religions outside the church?

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  The essential doctrines of the faith, the nature of God, man, sin, salvation, inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture must be taught, understood and central in the life of the Christian and the church which is the Body of Christ. The proper understanding of them brings our focus on God and removes the focus from ourselves.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I was reminded afresh of those who took time to not only teach the word of God to me but to model a walk of faith. My friend, the late Norman Geisler who was a humble servant and a great mind for the faith. Dr. H. Wayne House, Dr. RIchard G. Howe, my pastor who with a genuine pastors heart faithfully teaches the word, is gentle and honest in his critiques of our writing. My wife, Joy, the better part of our marriage and walk with God. As we worked on this project I was impacted on how these and so many others were used by God to care about me enough to keep me accountable. Heresy of this magnitude spreads through the church because too few are willing to care enough to call friends and leaders to task.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  The influences and inspirations have been many and varied. My wife's grandfather began praying for my salvation and that I would be a pastor when I met and began dating his granddaughter. I was an atheist. He prayed for six years and after I came to the Lord, he arrived at the next family outing with a box of Bibles, commentaries and other resources. We never knew he was praying for me until that day. I learned the power of being faithful in prayer. My favorite authors are many and varied, Dr. Norman Geisler and Dr. James Sire, Francis Schaeffer and others who believed loving the Lord with our mind was just as important and part of the "Greatest Commandment" as our heart and soul. Chuck Swindoll who taught me how to live in grace. Dave Hunt who was unafraid to expose false teaching for the protection of the flock.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Discipleship is often thought of as something that is done in 9 or 10 lessons for an hour a week. It isn't. It is observation and imitation of others over a long time. All of us are discipling and being discipled. We are discipling well or bad but we are discipling. What we read, who we spend time with, how we act when others are watching and when we are alone are all elements of our life of faith. They are each aspects of our discipling and being discipled. What we do speaks so loudly that others may not hear what we are saying. May we be observed being faithful to Him Who called.
