The innovative Rhythm of Handwriting curriculum from Logic of English is designed to accompany the Essentials curriculum, or serve as stand-alone writing course (it's already built-in to the LoE Foundations series). Offering a multi-sensory approach that helps students develop fluid, natural, legible handwriting, this curriculum focuses on the kinesthetic movement of each stroke and the use of rhythmic verbal cues that guide students through the formation of each letter.
Students begin with large-motor movements. By learning how to form each letter on a handwriting chart using the pointer finger, students are able to master the motions before advancing to writing with a pencil.
Clear instructions provide students with an understanding of how to write each letter and where it is placed on the lines. Shortened, bold instructions emphasize the rhythmic motions needed to develop fluid handwriting. Letters are grouped by initial stroke in order to simplify the learning process and encourage the development of muscle memory. The sounds for each of the letters are included to aid teachers in introducing the A-Z phonograms.
A variety of introductory pages are filled with tips, information, and resources for the teacher, allowing this book to stand alone as a course for teaching handwriting (though tactile cards are available to supplement if desired). Pages illustrate the strokes and letters with examples and the rhythmic directions; each lesson includes a variety of line sizes so that students can use whichever size is most comfortable for their hands. Eventually students progress to writing full words. Uppercase, lowercase, and numbers are covered.
This program uses a custom font that was designed to be developmentally appropriate for young students and students struggling with handwriting.
This program is suitable for students of all ages who desire to master or improve their handwriting.
236 perforated, non-reproducible pages, softcover; consumable workbook. All Ages.
