Jesus Revolution by Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn tells the story of the Jesus Movement, a major revival that broke out in the '60s and '70s and strongly impacted the West Coast, especially the hippie culture of the time. The book is written mostly as a biography of Laurie and his firsthand experience with the revival, Calvary Chapel, and people like Lonnie Frisbee and Chuck Smith. It also gives an overview of the '60s and '70s culture and how it is really similar to today's culture. I highly recommend this book.

My grandparents lived in the time of the Jesus Movement. While they may not have experienced it first hand, my grandfather was saved in a revival in the early 70s.

I've always found huge interest in the time of the hippies, in the 60s, 70s, cultural...and what brought along the Jesus Movement. Movies like Woodlawn blew me away and since I was a young teenager, the word revival has been planted firmly in my mind. I want nothing more now at twenty years old to see revival with my generation.

Reading Jesus Movement was a breath of fresh air.

Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn share how revival was made possible, how we young adults now are no different than those of during the Jesus Movement. I've wanted for a long time to talk to someone who was in the time of hippies, who saw the big revival first hand, and reading this book was like getting just that.

I highly recommend this book to anyone -- especially those who, like me, don't know a lot about the Jesus Movement. Even if you're not interested in that time, I think we can all agree with hunger for revival, for excitement, for contentment, for the burned-out feeling in church to leave.

    Read this book.

    It's good.

    Really good.

Baker Books, you rock. Thank you for free books in exchange for an honest opinion.

As history has shown, there were many issues factors that led up to what is now referred to as the Jesus Revolution. Violence accompanying protest over oppression and in opposition to what was seen as an unjust war. An entire generation of disillusioned youth searching to find the real meaning of life. Unprecedented political turmoil upended by distrust of American political leadership. Interestingly enough, many of those same factors are present in modern day America. The question is, will God again use the turmoil of disenchantment to spur a new Jesus Revolution and turn this nation back towards Our Heavenly Father?

The story follows a young Greg Laurie as he discovers the love of Jesus through the faith of Chuck and Kay Smith as well as Lonnie Frisbee. However, the story is more about how God used them to transform a generation that once was known simply as Hippies. The book is about how a generation often lost to drugs, sex and rock and roll, found meaning in the words of the Bible and the faith in Jesus Christ and then became Church leaders themselves, planting some of the largest ministries in America. Most of all it is how God's spirit took a generation that many people had written off and used them to spread his word around this nation.

What an intriguing read! I've always loved Greg Laurie's sermons and follow his ministry, it was interesting and inspiring to read more about his life. Jesus Revolution recounts a big portion of Greg's life during the hippie and Jesus movements of the 60s and 70s. I learned so much about this era and the revival that moved through SoCal and expanded to the rest of the country.

As a Millennial who did not have the blessing of witnessing this amazing revival, I guess I always felt disconnected from earlier periods in history because I thought today the world is worse than it has ever been, and in part it is, but I also learned that many current problems youth struggle with are not new and the prevailing philosophies of the 60s are still prevalent today.

I learned to appreciate and understand the hippies better, specifically the hippies who got saved and went on to become ministers like Greg himself. I also appreciate ministers like Chuck Smith, who embraced, welcomed and loved these kids without prejudice. They allowed God to take full control and they reaped the greatest revival in the last half of the 20th century. It goes to show what God can do when Christians live in complete surrender.

One thing I really loved about the hippies of the time, was their acceptance of everyone and their love and unity that translated into a genuine unconditional love once they were saved. Stories as this one give me renewed hope, that the LORD can do today what he did 50 years ago. That there is always hope for the current generation and that the times can never be too evil that God cannot bring a new revival. God can use anyone and everyone, in this case, he used the youth, which everyone thought were completely lost and rebellious to bring about one of the biggest revivals in history. And He can surely do it again today.

Jesus Revolution was simply an amazing book that met its goal because it connected deeply with this young Christian. This book is very relatable to Millenials and Generation Z. And may I add, the cover is so cool! I highly, highly recommend!

"Jesus Revolution" is a great read by Greg Laurie about his life during the 1960s while living in California. Part biography, history, personalities, cultural description, present and future hope, and other categories, the book is a very engaging read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading how many hippies' lives were transformed by Jesus Christ during the 1960a and the chaotic culture during those times. Having been born in that decade, I remember some events (MLK assassination, RFK assassination, Vietnam War) and learned more about those events and other events I did not know.

Enjoyed reading how God used people shunned by the culture back then and how many churches were started through these people, including Greg Laurie. Also a good challenge for the reader to pray and hope for a might movement of God again like He did during the 1960s and earlier periods of our nation's history. Will read again.

I was given a review copy by Baker Books and appreciate the opportunity to read and review. Excellent read.
