Publisher's Description

It has been six months since Sarah Billingsly was admitted to a nursing home for end-of-life care. Now that she is being released to return to her house, Sarah knows that she has been provided a healing miracle, thanks to a doctor who has cured her of cancer. Clearly, she has been given a second chance and vows to be grateful and better serve her Lord. But what Sarah does not realize is that life is about to give her another unexpected jolt.

While doing her best to navigate through her extra-inning in life, Sarah downsizes, prioritizes, and mobilizes for the gift of a second chance. But just as Sarah finds her place and a new identity as Merry Christian, a global pandemic hits and changes everything. Once again, her friendships, loyalty, love, gratitude, and Christian service are tested in ways that she could never have imagined.

In this insightful, meditative Christian allegory, a cancer survivor provided with the miraculous gift of healing considers her discipleship and life priorities, even as a new crisis challenges her and the world.

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a sixty-eight-year-old mother of four and grandmother of five. I am a former teacher, homeschooler, and entrepreneur. After a lifetime of studying the Bible, my life has evolved from worldly concerns to a more spiritual focus. Retirement and the sudden downtime of COVID-19 gave me the opportunity to write and publish Resuscitated: A COVID-19 Tragedy.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Over the years I have visited scores of people in hospitals, prisons, nursing homes, and mental health facilities. Too often I found depressed and lonely people which broke my heart. I wrote my book to develop empathy in the reader for these sufferers. In his Angelus Prayer on June 29, 2020, Pope Francis said that the elderly are treated as "discarded material" which is "a tragedy of our times." My book portrays that heart-rending situation.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope that readers will become more empathetic with the lonely, institutionalized members of our society. The book subliminally exhorts Christians to serve others to demonstrate their gratitude and love for what Jesus has done for them.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?   When I finished Resuscitated: A COVID-19 Tragedy, I felt a peaceful satisfaction that God would be glorified by it.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?   My life has been influenced and inspired by the Bible and the sacrifice that Jesus made for me.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This book is not a preachy sermon. In fact, some may even question that it has much of a Bible theme. Only serious Bible students will recognize the three-layer allegory and the Biblical allusions and inferences. Readers will be moved to meditate on many relevant and spiritual topics. For those wanting a book to provoke a lively and fulfilling book discussion, there are over 100 discussion questions at the end of the novel.
