MR5 Stars Out Of 5Eyes Wide OpenMarch 29, 2021MRQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book takes everything you've felt and acknowledges the validity. It then takes those feelings and helps you work through them first within yourself. Then it shows you how ANY man, perfect or horrid, can fall prey to this. Many don't even realize they are sinning and hurting their loved ones. It has helped me see what my husband has gone through, where he may be right now, and how I can help us both by making Christ my goal. It does not diminish the sin and destruction. It brings awareness and hope. My anger and hurt are much better controlled after learning and understanding it ISN'T MY FAULT. Not every man will change, only God can do that. This is to help do our part to make God the focus of our healing and decisions. (goes great alongside Every Mans Battle)
The focus is on pornography and hyper-sexualization of the world, cheating and other issues are touched on and put into context. HOWEVER the source of the sin is the same. Men need to divert their eyes and hearts from anything that is not their wife.
LJCombs3 Stars Out Of 5Title should be Understanding Porn AddictionMarch 1, 2018LJCombsQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I bought the book to help me decide about staying with my husband who is a serial cheater, (not into porn,) because that is 'sexual sin'. There is little to nothing in this book that discusses the betrayal of ongoing infidelity and unrepentence, and backsliding. Rather this book is about Christian men falling into pornography addiction and the women who love them. Please just change the subtitle!
Loree2 Stars Out Of 5Not for Every HeartFebruary 13, 2018LoreeQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0While I appreciate the honesty of this book, this is not a good read for any woman who has been cut off from sexual intimacy by a porn-addicted husband. The first part of this book is like pouring salt on the wounds of someone who has been through that.
Also, I find that this book engages in stereotypes about female sexuality. Think about the rise in popularity of books/movies/shows like Fifty Shades of Grey and Orange is the New Black, which are directed at females. It is inaccurate to claim that male sexuality alone is related to visual stimuli.
daisygurl45 Stars Out Of 5Amazing Insight and Helpful for HealingNovember 30, 2015daisygurl4Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I bought this book a few days after my husband admitted his pornography addiction. It took me about a month before I finally opened it to read it. So much literature out there for wives is aimed at making us equally to blame, calling us "co-addicts" and that kind of language and attitude isn't what I needed for my own healing process. Once I finally decided to read this book, it completed changed my healing process. Yes, the book does devote a large section to understanding male sexual wiring, but I found it helpful to better understand my husband. I really enjoyed how this was written by a married couple that went through this - their personal perspectives, along with the stories shared in the book, really helped me to not feel so alone. So much of what they were saying hit home for me personally and also were on target for my husband. He is currently reading Every Man's Battle and has found it to be equally rewarding for his own recovery.
