CherieOntario CanadaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent seriesMay 2, 2016CherieOntario CanadaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Our homeshcool family has completed the volume one and two of Mystery of History. Exellent resources, well written from a decidedly christian perspective and beginning at "the beginning" (Genesis).
This third volume is a beautiful hardbound book with colour pictures which is a nice change from the first 2 volumes. That said, I personally miss the all in one style of the first 2 volumes - not a big deal, just a personal preference.
Mammy AnneDecatur, GAAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Best history book I have ever read!September 12, 2013Mammy AnneDecatur, GAAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My 10 year old home schooled 6th grader and I have already covered 19 lessons. Would have covered the book if we did not have 6 other subjects to cover. Linda Lacour Hobar has the best style of writing I have seen in history textbook. As a teacher of mathematics with three grown daughters who are all engineers like their father, I can tell you I NEVER cared for studying history for more than I had to in order to get out of school. When I chose this text for my granddaughter, it was because she needed to study something in Social Studies and the cover looked sharp. We started on the second day of class this year reading on page xi. We read every word through Lesson 1 and both of us wanted to keep on going. We are on page 99 having completed 19 Lessons in 3 weeks. She still wants to keep going at this pace because it is just that exciting.
Tracy ClarkeAustraliaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Good history "spine" for home school studiesFebruary 20, 2013Tracy ClarkeAustraliaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleThis book is set out nicely with interesting stories so children get an overview of history from a Christian perspective. You can add in as many living books as suits your family with this curriculum. If you want to bolster it up you can use the accompanying quizzes and craft ideas. If you find the quizzes and crafts overwhelming you can just get your children to keep a notebook and write something on each topic. You could use it in a relaxed way for primary school with easier living books and more intensively (more detailed living books on each topic with the quizzes) in high school. We plan to use our Amy Pac Timeline figures in conjunction with note booking for primary school.
ctbeachBeaufort, South CarolinaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5It is well written to make history come alive.September 24, 2012ctbeachBeaufort, South CarolinaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 5We love the classical approach to learning history and learning about the historical events of Christianity. This is definitely important to a Christian family and should be brought out in all history books as well. I would highly recommend The Renaissance, Reformation, and the Growth of the Nation (1455-1707) Student Reader, Volume 3 to families who want a Christian base education.
Q: Is it necessary to purchase the reader AND the study guide?
This was created to be used together as the guide contains the activities, quizzes, tests, reproducible maps, teacher info, book lists and everything else that is not the actual lesson itself.
