Publisher's Description

In 1911, Nellie Fielding, an 18-year-old American with ambitions of becoming a concert pianist, travels to Albion Cove on England's majestic southern coast to attend an elite girls' boarding school. There she meets her great-aunt, Rose Wickham, who is to prepare her for the concert stage, as she had done years earlier for Nellie's famous mother, Charlotte Pendleton. Despite Nellie's burning desire to follow in her mother's footsteps, she fears Rose's true intent is to derail her dreams at any cost. Both women find themselves locked in a battle of wills that threatens to alter the course of their lives. Nellie, isolated in a remote village, coerced into roles she did not choose, struggles to find answers. Two young men in Nellie's life get caught up in her quest for fame and her passion to fulfill her dead mother's legacy. A mysterious music box, a secluded cottage, and a prestigious contest raise intriguing questions. What roles will a journalist and wealthy socialite play in Nellie's life? Can the challenges she faces destroy Nellie's musical aspirations? Will closely guarded family secrets be revealed? In the midst of it all, will Charlotte's legacy truly be remembered? HELEN MOTTER is a professional musician with a Licentiate in violin from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, and a Masters in church music from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. She is a violinist with Orchestra Kentucky and has also spent nearly thirty years working as an editor in the Christian publishing industry. This is her first novel, a story inspired by her own experiences studying in England. She and her husband live in Kentucky, where they pursue their shared interests in music ministry, performance, and writing. They have three grown children and five granddaughters, who live much too far away in Minnesota.

"Remember Me Always" is the debut novel and first volume in a planned series called "Music of the Soul" by author Helen Motter. This gifted storyteller is a professional musician and adept editor who prior to her retirement from the Christian book publishing industry worked as long-time copy editor for the renowned Beverly Lewis. It's a beautifully told story set in 1911 England when Edwardian era sensibilities held an iron grip on social behavior and proper young women were discouraged from pursuing careers as concert musicians. Protagonist Nellie Fielding, a well brought up 18-year-old American girl, moves to the south coast of England to attend Wickham School, elite boarding school run by its namesake, her draconian great aunt Rose Wickham. The older woman had mentored the girl's late mother and trained her for success on the concert stage a short generation earlier. Acclaimed pianist Charlotte Pendleton achieved fame yet chose to give up a promising career to marry. Her daughter is determined to carry on the musical legacy. Emily is blessed with abundant natural talent and has years of lessons and practice behind her that have readied her for the next level of instruction necessary for her to become a polished, professional musician. She is fired with ambition and passion for piano and eagerly focused on her quest for fame as a concert pianist. She feels thwarted by her forbidding relative who seems intent on derailing her career choice.

Helen Motter is a woman of deep Christian faith whose convictions shine through her heroine. Emily is guided in her decisions by prayer, firm resolve and moral certitude and could be an inspiring fictional role model for readers on the threshold of adulthood. I was immediately caught up by Helen's superb writing, the depth of this engrossing story and wide range of intriguing characters. It's a gem of a book and a very pleasant discovery. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and can whole-heartedly recommend this book.
