Tell us a little about yourself. I am privileged to be married to Yvonne for 55 years. But who's counting! We have four children, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. And still counting!
We were privileged to launch the ministry of Emmaus Road International in 1983. By God's grace and mercy, we have circled the globe with our resources and personal travels in ministry.
What was your motivation behind this project? Having written the book, SERVING AS SENDERS, and doing it as a seminar for many years, it became apparent that the least understood and thus the most "hurting" part of member care is when the missionary returns home.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Readers will gain a clearer understanding of the multiplied issues that face a returning missionary AND what they can do to help their friend avoid the pitfalls of a bad reentry and help them have a good reentry.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? As I collected the 70 stories written by "real missionaries" of their reentry experiences, I heard a clear message that the Church needs to do a better job at caring for their returning people. One person I knew said he would write his story. After several calls, asking him to do it, he finally admitted, "I can't write it. It is still too painful." I asked him to tell me his story over the phone. Several days later I called him. "I have a story here I would like to include in the book. Would you listen to it and give me your advise?" Through tears he said, "Yes, you may include my story."
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? First and foremost, I am "influenced" by God and His Word. Beyond that, thousands of people we have ministered among in 44+ years of missions training have impacted our lives.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Buy the book! And help your missionary friend have a good reentry!
